Nik Zherdev cleared waivers and remains on Flyers roster as a healthy scratch.

If the Flyers assign him to the phantoms on MON, they pick up extra cap space perhaps to add two players. If not, they are looking at just one upgrade on defense.

No surprise that Nick Zherdev is outa here ...

Loved how he jumped into his black limo - he never drove himself anywhere here _ and smiled on the way out refusing to talk.

In all these years covering pro sports, I never saw ONE athlete, who got waived, that was happy about the decision. Zherdev seemed ecstatic to leave here.

If he clears waivers - I think he won't _ I expect him to refuse to report to the minors and would think he goes back to the KHL.

But the fact his agent, Jay Grossman, asked for waivers, indicates to me there is someone out there who wants him for a rental at $400,000.

GM Paul Holmgren told us that Zherdev's work ethic had fallen to the point where he no longer fit.

“Obviously, he has 15 goals and limited power play time, limited minutes, but over the course of time here, things have eroded and Nick’s work ethic has dropped off. Right now, he’s just not fitting in.”

The good news today is that Flyer defenseman Sean O'Donnell is skating here at practice in Voorhees.

He did a lot of stretching along the boards and was working out the left knee as we all figured.

Even better, he is taking regular shifts on the ice with Andrej Meszaros.

What I want to ask him today is ... was he feeling this good on TUE or he is pushing it to return to the lineup now that Oskars Bartulis is out?

I'm always leery when management says a player will miss 10-14 days and then he miraculously comes back three days later.

Also, the way Bartulis was holding his left arm after being injured in the Scottie Upshall check, makes me think he has a shoulder dislocation.

Here's a question: Sergei Bobrovosky was not handlng the puck very well against PHO. And he seemed undecided what to do w/his defense. Was this because the d-pairs were again mixed given the injuries or because BOB is having some issues right now?
