Not sure how to feel about this game in Buffalo tonight because win or lose, the Flyers seem destined at this point to face the Sabres in the first round.
The scenarios are easy here. Flyers must win tonight and tomorrow against the Islanders to have a chance to clinch the Eastern Conference No. 1 seed. Washington needs just one point to win it or the Flyers getting just three points in their last two games.
The Sabres can clinch a playoff spot simply by earning a point in this game.
The Flyers seemed to understand that they need to win out and protect the No. 2 seed, if nothing else.
“There seems to be an eagerness to get on the ice,” Sean O’Donnell told me. “That’s the great thing about what we do. It’s short memories, whether it’s coaches, teammates, fans or reporters. It’s what have you done for me, lately.
“We didn’t like the effort in Ottawa. But if we come out and play like we can, it’s forgotten. Redemption is something you can get quick in this game. Some of us are looking forward to that, kinda getting back and feeling good about ourselves.”
Claude Giroux is playing even though he still has a touch of the flu.
"He looks awful but he's a gamer," Jody Shelley told me.
Danny Briere returns to the lineup after a two-game absence with a sore groin. He talked today about how much the boos here no longer bother him but are almost fun. At the same time, he agreed with me that the booing in Montreal is very different, almost vicious.
