How Could Flyers Afford to Let Eriksson Go? |

Aye, yi, yi!
That's what Eric Desjardins used to say wherever there was a catastrophe in Flyerdom. Or even minor annoyances.
I'm just as stunned as you are about Joacim Eriksson. As Bill Meltzer reported earlier, the Flyers walked away from the young goalie this week. Unsigned. He'll go back in the draft.
Just last summer, I was with some scouts who were debating whether Eriksson or Sergei Bobrovsky would emerge as the next No. 1 on the Flyers. People were real high on the 21-year-old.
I don't get it. I realize he wasn't going to come over this year and things are crowded and a mess in Philly, but really, can they afford to let their best prospect just walk? I don't think so.
This isn't the case where the Flyers know something we don't because as we have seen, they don't know who their starting goalie is in the playoffs or who is going to be their new No. 1 when the season begins in October.
They better be right about Niko Hovinen, too, because I think the fan base right now is at its wits ends with their goalie riddle.
Here what GM Paul Holmgren had to tell me on CSNPhilly.com about why Eriksson was left unsigned:

And BTW ... who do YOU want the FLyers to sign/trade for as a goalie this summer?
