I've already posted a pix of Ilya Bryzgalov onto this page.
Not that I am dead certain this deal gets done. Frankly, I think he can get more than $6 million in the open market.
But the Flyers are going to try and make him understand that THEIR club has a chance to win NOW. Way I see it, the Flyers have another 2 years - to win a Stanley Cup before age really hits them hard on the back end with Chris Pronger and Kimmo Timonen.
I am also curious how this is going to work with Sergei Bobrovsky. Bryzgalov can play 70 games a year. Do you reduce that to 55 or 60 to help develop "Bob?" If Bob is not playing 30-35 games a year then how is he going to develop here?
I do like the things Bryzgalov had to say today in his statement. Good PR man that Rich Winter, err, Bryzgalov. Talking about winning in Philly and bringing a long, overdue Cup back to Philly.
Smart stuff. The right stuff, too.
Part of Bryzgalov's statement:
“I am looking forward to meeting with [general manager] Paul Holmgren to discuss the possibility of us working together for many years to come. I would very much like to have the opportunity to play for the Flyers and be a part of the team Paul has assembled and to work with Paul and Mr. [Ed] Snider to see if we can achieve the ultimate goal.
“I believe the Flyers are right there and I would love very much to be a part of the team that brings the Stanley Cup back to Philadelphia. It would be a great honor. And it’s time!”
