“It’s not hard if you’re playing in the paint. It’s an easy save for me, but if you’re wandering out, that’s going to happen.” That was Roberto Luongo’s comment after authoring a 1-0 shutout in Vancouver’s game five victory over the Boston Bruins.
This comment is coming from a goaltender that looked like Swiss cheese in games three and four, a goaltender who has been thoroughly outplayed by his counterpart in the Boston net. The reason Vancouver is leading this series is not between the pipes.
I really wonder about the culture the Vancouver Canucks organization. Every time they seize firm control of a series, someone stands up and breaks silly.
With a 2-0 series lead, blueliner Aaron Rome delivers a hit early in game three that gets him suspended and fires up Boston. Result? A tied series. Alex Burrows, who seemed to have learned his lessons about embellishments, can’t draw a call to save his life. Now, Vancouver’s mercurial netminder decides to comment about a save he would’ve made? Ummm… what about the 12 he didn’t make in games three and four? Weren’t those saves he should’ve made???
Maybe it’s just me, but giving more bulletin board material to a team that has shown that they can utilize to maximum effect just isn’t a good idea.
Game six is tomorrow.
