I am swamped with other writing deadlines and a meeting, but I wanted to put forth a few thoughts and notes before returning tomorrow with a full-scale Meltzer's Musings blog:

* If the reports prove true that Ilya Bryzgalov's cap hit will be as high as $7 million, I certainly think it would put a lot of pressure on the Flyers to come up with some creative and intelligent trades of multiple players. However, we don't know this to be true, as neither the Flyers nor Ritch Winter are saying a word and it could still turn out that the player might make $7 million next season but carry a lower cap hit based on a frontloaded long-term contract. So I will wait until there is some sort of official announcement of a contract to discuss what I think of the contract. It's kind of silly that NHL teams always put out those "per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed" announcements, since the contract specifics become public knowledge within 24 hours anyway.

* Best of luck to Ian Laperriere when the Masterton Trophy announcement is made today. I can think of no more deserving hockey player. Win or lose, a section of tomorrow's blog will be dedicated to Lappy.

* Today on Philadelphiaflyers.com, I take a look back at the landmark 1990 draft, which produced 21 players -- a record for any single draft -- who played for the Flyers at some point in their NHL careers. The article's primary focus is the recollections of Derian Hatcher of being drafted by the Minnesota North Stars that year.

* Today on NHL.com's Across the Pond , I take a look at NHL Entry Draft prospect Jonas Brodin, the 3rd ranked Euro heading into the first round on Friday.
