11 pm: BTW, if you're a Nassau County resident or just an Islander fan on Long Island, take a listen to Chris Botta's latest on SNY's PointBlank TV as another Nassau Democrat gives his reasons for voting No to Ed Mangano's referendum. As someone who has an extensive background in the fight in Uniondale, Botta does an excellent job questioning while the answers made me angry.

1:04 pm: Zenon Konopka announced as a Senator.

Yep, Don Brennan, Ottawa Sun:
The Ottawa Senators have just become a tougher team.

Former 67’s captain Zenon Konopka has agreed to a one-year, one-way contract that will pay him $700,000, the Sun has learned.

Konopka has led the NHL in penalty minutes - and been one of its most frequent fighters - in each of the last two seasons. He joins a Senators team that now has plenty of muscle, with Chris Neil, Matt Carkner and Zack Smith also able to rough things up.

1:04 pm: Again, what would I do without Katie Strang's Tweets. Blake Comeau has filed for salary arbitration in accordance with the CBA. If you remember, Matt Moulson had gone that route himself once before. It doesn't seem to bother the Islanders. They feel it is all part of the process. However, I'm not too sure what Blake is thinking.

11:32 am: The NY Islanders have signed centerman Trevor Frischmon to a one year, 2-way deal. The 29-year-old will probably see most action in Bridgeport, but the Hockey News has the players listed as such:

Is a hustler who provides energy shift after shift. Has a little playmaking skill at lower levels and also displays some decent defensive ability.

FLAWS: Doesn't have ideal size for the center position. Lacks the consistent offensive acumen required for the National Hockey League.

CAREER POTENTIAL: Reserve center.

From the Isles press release information on their main site:
The 6’0”, 200-pound center has appeared in 327 career AHL games, recording 102 points (21 goals, 81 assists) and 178 penalty minutes between Springfield and the Syracuse Crunch. Frischmon made his NHL debut during the 2009-10 season with Columbus and did not record a point in three games.

Trevor has only 31 less PIMs in his 327 games than Matt Martin had in one season.

Oh, and it's Trent Hunter's 31st birthday. If you see him, say Happy birthday. LOL

7 am: Wake up everyone.  The holiday is over.  Back to work.  While the Macy's Independence Day Fireworks show was pretty impressive (with the exception of that stupid sparkler at the right corner that announced the show was LIVE) the NY Islanders July 4th was quiet.

Certainly that doesn't mean nothing was happening, as was Tweeted out by another blogger.  According to that report, Garth Snow continued to work the phones looking for his deal.  However, there was no M80 announcing a trade or deal -- yet.

Also note that both Zenon Konopka and Radek Martinek are still on the "available" list after so many free agents have found new homes.

So let's look towards "Matt-Mas."  Sorry, I just think that's too funny.

Two days from now, on July 7th, NY Islander Matt Martin will be signing at the Team Store in Massapequa from 6:30 - 7:30 pm.  Get there early.  The line gets long.  The 22-year-old had 147 penalty minutes last season a two suspensions.  He also had 14 points in 68 games.  Matt does it all.  The year prior, he scored 31 points in 76 games for Bridgeport where he was quite the fan-favorite.

He loves to antagonize on the ice, and sometimes off it too as I caught him yapping with Islander prospect Casey Cizikas at prospect camp last summer.  I asked him if they had ever played together and that's why they were jawing each other.  Nope, it was just fun.

Team Store specials for Thursday will be the unveiling of the new Matt Martin player t-shirt, $17 off Jerseys and $17 off lettering.  T-shirts will be $17 and pucks and mini-sticks will be $7.  Yep, a day of sevens.  I guess I should go then.

As we head into the work week, I am hoping to get information about prospect camp, but don't forget to get your tickets for the Blue & White Scrimmage on July 16th so you get to see all the Isles prospects first-hand.

**Also note: I see there were a lot of suggestions on the "Trade" article. You can get back to the comments there to continue if you wish by siimply clicking on the link below which will bring you to the prior entry.
