Shanny Sets An Example

Brendan Shanahan sent a message across the NHL by suspending Jody Shelley to a whopping 10 games for his board hit from behind on Toronto's Darryl Boyce.

Shanhan admitted that, as a repeat offender, Shelley's past factored in.

Shelley told me during an interview that he heard that was a huge mark against him. He also told me he was surprised at the number of games, nonetheless.

Suspension aside, I love the fact that Shanny prepared a video with a narration and explanation of what he was ruling on and why.

This is going to be the new protocol for "delivering" the news on NHL suspensions and I applaud the NHL for being innovative in a why the NBA, NFL or MLB is not. Bravo.

Now ... did Shelley deserve 10 games? And lucky for him, 5 were only pre-season or he'd be losing more money than the $73 grand he'll forfeit in October.
