The Flyers close out the preseason tonight with the road end of a home-and-home set with the New Jersey Devils. The game starts at 7 p.m. EDT (no local TV broadcast tonight but the game will be available via webcast at the Flyers official site and on the radio at 610 WIP.

On Thursday at the Wells Fargo Center, Philadelphia took a 2-1 decision on goals by Wayne Simmonds and Jaromir Jagr. Chris Pronger made his pre-season debut, while Claude Giroux had by far his best game of the exhibition schedule. Ilya Bryzgalov and Sergei Bobrovsky split time in net and both were very sharp.

For the final game of the preseason, winning is a distant tertiary objective. The main goals for both sides are to take a lengthy final game-action look at players battling for roster spots and to minimize the risk of injury before opening night for the team's top players.

The Flyers must make their final cuts by Oct. 5. Tonight, the team is expected to dress Matt Read, Sean Couturier, Zac Rinaldo, Harry Zolnierczyk, Andreas Lilja and at least three among defensemen Andreas Lilja, Oskars Bartulis, Erik Gustafsson and Matt Walker.

Rookie center Brayden Schenn (upper body injury) will not play tonight. He finishes the preseason with one assist in four games, a minus-two rating, zero penalty minutes and a 54 percent (27-for-50) winning percentage on faceoffs.

I will update the blog before game time with tonight's official lineups.
