Holmgren, Lilja Disagree on Recovery

This has been the kind of summer where if it weren't for bad luck, the Flyers would have had no luck whatsoever.

Nothing went right in free agency. And the injuries continued to pile up through the summer, right from the end of the season with a half-dozen players going under the knife, including dual wrist surgery to Claude Giroux.

Things got worse this weekend as Bill Meltzer's translated the Swedish newspaper story on Andreas Lilja being lost till December with hip surgery.

Lilja said he would not be back till December, he figured.

Not surprisingly, the Flyers are a bit more optimistic. GM Paul Holmgren told CSNPhilly.com on Sunday he thinks Lilja will be late in "late October or early November."

Other than more Flyers depth being lost, I think it's a wash because I truly believe there will be a lockout of some length - into December.

That being the case, Lilja's injury won't matter. A lockout gains him time and more importantly would gain Andrej Meszaros time to recovery from right Achilles tendon surgery.

He has already been told to worry about the playoffs and not the regular season.

As of now, here's my d-pairs:

Kimmo Timonen-Braydon Coburn
Nick Grossmann-Erik Gustafsson
Luke Schenn-Marc-Andre Bourdon

7th: Bruno Gervais; 8th: Brandon Manning.

Is there anyone out there who is comfortable with that top 6?

I'm not.
