While various Flyers veterans work out daily at the SkateZone in Voorhees, hoping that training camp will not be canceled due to an NHL lockout, Flyers prospects playing in CHL leagues have begun their preseasons while the European regular seasons have either already started or will get underway over the next week. The NCAA schedules start in October.
Following is a look at Flyers prospects whose teams were recently in action:
Flyers 2012 first-round pick Scott Laughton had a goal and an assist while defenseman Colin Suellentrop compiled three assists in the Oshawa Generals' 5-1 win over the Peterborough Petes last night. The Generals beat the Petes by the same score on Thursday. Peterborough's Derek Mathers did not figure in the scoring in either game.
Fredric Larsson has recovered from the concussion he suffered in the second scrimmage at the Flyers Prospect Camp in July. His Brynäs J20 team has finished its preseason training games and the SuperElit regular season gets underway next Saturday with a road game against the Modo J20 team.
Taylor Leier recently sustained a torn abdominal muscle, and has not suited up in any of the Portland Winterhawks' preseason games. Portland defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds, 6-3, on Friday. Leier is expected to miss about six weeks, dating from the end of August.
Valeri Vasiliev has been sidelined for the past week with a suspected concussion. His MHC Spartak club returns to action on Wednesday with a road game against MHC Khimik.
Nick Cousins has been reinstated to the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, along with teammates Andrew Fritsch and Mark Petaccio. None were in the lineup in yesterday's loss to Saginaw.
