A lot of us, myself included, assumed Danny Briere would go back to the Swiss League during the lockout.
Turns out, he and Claude Giroux are headed the Germany to play for Eisbären Berlin in the Deutsche Eishiockey Liga (DEL).
Briere texted CSNPhilly.com this morning with the news.
“No other comment,” Briere said.
Briere and Giroux h ad been holding out on a European commitment for a while, waiting to see whether the lockout would be short or whether it would protracted.
The NHL will cancel regular season games starting today. And based on conversations with players and sources on both sides, it now appears November games are likely to be missed as well.
That takes us the December and the possibility of losing the Winter Classic.
That is why I feel Briere and Giroux finally committed. They know there won't be hockey here for quite a while.
