UPDATE 10:45 PM EDT
The ECHL's Trenton Titans ran their season record to 4-0-0 with a 4-3 win in Evansville tonight. In a seesaw game that saw the Phantoms lead 3-1 before Evansville came back to tie the game, Luke Pither netted the game winner in the third period. Rookie Marcel Noebels, who has points in every game to date, assisted on the goal.
Niko Hovinen is officially day-to-day with what is being called a deep bruise near his left clavicle. He did not accompany the team on its two-game, two-day road trip. New Jersey Devils prospect Scott Wedgewood got the start tonight, and will also start tomorrow night when the Titans are in Cincinnati.
UPDATE 9 PM EDT
The Adirondack Phantoms dropped a tough 2-1 decision to the St. John's IceCaps in the first of back-to-back games in Newfoundland. The lone Phantoms goal was scored in the second period Andrew Johnston, assisted by Eric Wellwood + Matt Ford. The tally was Johnston's first in the AHL.
Goaltender Scott Munroe single-handedly kept the Phantoms in the game in the first period. Terry Murray was forced to use his timeout early in the game, as Adirondack was frequently pinned deep in their own end of the ice. Thereafter, the Phantoms took over the game in the second and third period but had trouble solving goaltender Eddie Pasquale.
Munroe finished with 24 saves on 26 shots (12 of which came in the opening period).
He had no chance on either IceCaps goal. The first was a deflection by Max Macenauer. The game-winner was a defensive breakdown in which no one picked up defenseman Travis Ramsey on a backdoor play.
The Phantoms have scored just one one in their last six periods and are 2-for-20 on the power play in the first three games, including 0-for-5 in this game. Adirondack had its fair share of scoring chances in the game, but hit the post several times and were denied several other times on tough saves by Pasquale.
Brayden Schenn had seven shots on goal for Adirondack, but was unable to get on the scoreboard and finished minus-two. Sean Couturier had one good power play scoring chance but the puck took a late hop on him. He finished without a shot on goal in the game.
However, Couturier was strong on the penalty kill and did a good job of checking the dangerous Alexander Burmistrov. Adirondack killed off all five of their own penalties in the game. Burmistrov was also on the receiving end of a crushing hit by Oliver Lauridsen.
Offensively, the best Phantoms forwards in the game were Wellwood, Schenn and Ben Holmstrom. Those three players generated solid pressure as Murray separated Schenn and Couturier onto different lines. On the blueline, both Brandon Manning and Danny Syvret had strong games for Adirondack.
Marc-Andre Bourdon did not make the road trip with the Phantoms due to an unspecified injury. Jeff Dimmen substituted in the lineup. Forward Matt Mangene also made it into the lineup tonight.
UPDATE 5 PM EDT
Here are today's Flyers-related game results from Europe:
Ilya Bryzgalov was scratched in favor of Rastislav Stana, who recorded his 4th shutout of the season for CSKA. Jakub Voracek remains out of Lev lineup.
No points for Ruslan Fedotenko in a 3-1 loss. However, he went 12-for-17 on faceoffs (70.1 percent).
Matt Read had a goal and an assist in a 4-3 win for Södertälje.
Claude Giroux had a goal and an assist in a 5-1 win for Eisbären today. Linemate Danny Briere had three assists.
Wayne Simmonds scored two goals today for Eispiraten in a 5-4 loss to Dresden.
Tom Sestito had two assists and stayed out of the penalty box in a 4-3 shootout win for Sheffield.

The day after the not-so-surprising setback in the NHL-NHLPA negotiations, I'm really not in the mood to talk about the lockout. Throughout this frustrating process, I have preferred to focus on the hockey that is actually being played (wherever it may be) rather than constantly bemoan the ridiculous situation the NHL is in.
It would not be so horrible if this week's events had happened back in August or the first week of September. The negotiations are at a starting point, with a long way to go until resolution. Both sides are spouting their PR spins about the other being unreasonable, but that's par for the tiresome and predictable course.
Again, that would have been OK six to eight weeks ago. But it's now getting late into October and games are already being canceled with more to come. It's disgraceful. The reality is that neither the billionaires nor the millionaires would be ruined even if the League's CBA operated 100 percent under the others' proposal.
The only issue I truly care about is that we're now back in a holding pattern that is going to last until the Winter Classic and entire season are in serious jeopardy. Both sides are still trying to "win" a war of attrition, and it stinks.
For the folks who are starved to see some hockey today, there is a jam-packed slate of Flyers-related games. Today's schedule features a combined 12 matches in the minor leagues, Europe, junior and collegiate hockey involving Flyers players and prospects. The list is arranged by the game's starting times in the eastern U.S. and Canada.
