Last night in Sarnia, Team OHL salvaged a split of its two-game segment of the annual Super Series with the Russian national U20 team. The series now shifts to western Canada for the final two games of the series. Team WHL gets its first crack at the Russian team tomorrow night in Vancouver.

Here are today's Flyers-related and Flyers prospect games. All times are in EST.

* SM-liiga: Ilves Tampere @ Kärpät Oulu (11:45 AM): Max Talbot will make his debut for last-place Ilves. His new team is in the north of Finland to take on perennial playoff team Kärpät. Live in-game updates will be available here. Roughly an hour after the game is complete, free highlights will be posted here.

* Allsvenskan: Södertälje SK vs. Örebro HK (1:00 PM): Matt Read and SSK were on a tear heading into the schedule break. In their first game after the break, the team will attempt to pick up where it left off. Live in-game updates will be available here.

* European Trophy: HC Bili Tygri Liberec @ SC Bern (1:45 PM): It has been a rough Extraliga season to date for Liberec but the play of Wayne Simmonds has been a bright spot. Liberec, which has a 4-3-0 record in European Trophy play this season, is in Switzerland today to take on National League team SC Bern.

According to a report yesterday by RDS, Flyers defenseman Bruno Gervais has signed a short-term contract in Germany with the Heilbronn Falcons, a Bundesliga (minor league) team.

That brings to 10 the number of Flyers' players signed to European team during the lockout. Add in the six young players from last season's playoff roster who are playing on the Phantoms during the lockout, and there are 16 Philadelphia players who are playing in a league during the lockout.

The players who have yet to play in any pro league this season to date:

* Scott Hartnell: Has said he'll join KalPa Kuopio (SM-liiga) at some point if the lockout persists.
* Kimmo Timonen: Will only join KalPa if there is no NHL season and he needs a place to play come February.
* Nicklas Grossmann: Has been working out with Swedish Div I (AKA Swedish third-tier) team Åkers IF. He has had trouble arranging for a team and/or its sponsors to offset his hefty insurance premiums.
* Braydon Coburn: I haven't heard a hockey-related update since early in the lockout. He is active in the NHLPA as the Flyers' player rep.
* Luke Schenn: Last I heard, he was in Canada working out with other players.
* Michael Leighton: Recently played in a charity game. There had been rumors of strong interest from an EBEL (Austrian team) about a month ago, but things have been quiet since.
* Jody Shelley: He played in Finland during the last lockout but I haven't heard his name connected to any teams this time around. Perhaps there would be EIHL interest.

The Adirondack Phantoms return to action tomorrow, traveling to Manchester to take on the Monarchs in a rare 10 a.m. game. Sean Couturier, who missed both games last weekend with the flu, could return to the lineup for Adirondack.

In Couturier's absence, Terry Murray used the following line combinations in Friday's 2-1 win in Rochester and Saturday's 2-1 loss in Albany:

Zac Rinaldo - Brayden Schenn - Tye McGinn
Harry Zolnierczyk - Andrew Johnston - Shane Harper
Eric Wellwood - Rob Bordson - Ben Holmstrom
Tyler Brown - Garrett Roe - Matt Ford

Erik Gustafsson - Marc-Andre Bourdon
Brandon Manning - Danny Syvret
Oliver Lauridsen - Cullen Eddy

Cal Heeter (Fri starter)
Scott Munroe (Sat starter)

Much has been written this season about Zac Rinaldo making a pledge to take fewer penalties and to work on his all-around game. For the most part, he has played under control and has been a good player both on the forecheck and the penalty kill. Rinaldo has maintained a high energy level even in several games where the rest of the team did not skate very well. He also has three points (two goals, including one on a penalty shot, plus one assist), although he's been in a point drought of late.

Make no mistake, though: Rinaldo's stock in trade will ALWAYS be his hitting and agitating games. The undersized winger still needs to push the envelope of physical play and get under the other team's skin to be successful. He will never get the benefit of marginal penalty calls, based on his reputation. Sometimes it is well-deserved, sometimes not.

This week, Rinaldo was called out in the press by one of his old rivals, Rochester's Marcus Foligno. The feud has its origins in a March 2010 incident in which Foligno was on the receiving end of a blindside hit that resulted in a 12-game suspension for Rinaldo while Rinaldo was a member of the Barrie Colts.

Foligno, who had a running battle with Rinaldo in both Phantoms-Amerks games this season, told Democrat and Chronicle reporter Kevin Oklobzija that Rinaldo hasn't changed a bit since his junior career. The Amerks' player claimed that Rinaldo still runs the ice, recklessly or deliberately looking for opportunities to take out opposing players. Foligno then sarcastically denigrated Rinaldo's abilities as a hockey player.

How much does that sort of thing bother Rinaldo? Not one iota. His team won the game and the lone penalty minutes he served in the game came on a routine hooking minor early in the second period.
