This is intriguing ... Flyers claim Michael Leighton, backup goalie in Nashville, off waivers today for $63,750.
Why?
Just got off the phone with Flyers GM Paul Holmgren. He wants depth in case Robert Esche or Antero Niittymaki have any more injuries. He doesn't like that both goalies were hurt simultaneously this season and one playing without having a NHL backup.
Granted, Leighton does not have a ton of experience but he has more than Martin Houle.
"It's basically to solidify our depth at the position," Holmgren told me. "It's an insurance policy."
