Get used to the name Scott Laughton.
The rookie who played junior for Oshawa will be on the Flyers roster when it is released later today.
Here's the transcript, courtesy of the Flyers, from his interview after THUR night's practice:
Flyers center Scott Laughton
What was it like playing in front of the fans at practice tonight?
“It was kind of like a game-like atmosphere and it was nice to get out there. It was my first time being at the Wells Fargo Center so it was nice to get in the room with all the guys and it was nice to get on the ice.”
Everybody’s been talking about 3:00 Saturday, have you been thinking about 3:00 Friday when rosters set… has that been on your mind all week?
“I just try to control what I can do. I mean, I can’t control what they decide and I just want to continue playing my game and hopefully it takes care of itself.”
What did you find in this camp that maybe you didn’t know, an answer that you needed to know for yourself coming in?
“Mostly systems. Everything’s different coming in from juniors. Learning new systems right off the bat in a new camp, so that’s definitely different and just trying to learn those as quickly as I can.”
What have your nerves been like all week?
“They were pretty high my first day and they’ve gotten better every day. Staying with the guys has been great for me and really comfortable. If I have anything to ask they’re there for me so it’s been really good with these guys.”
Do you think having Hartnell helped that as well?
“Yeah, definitely. He’s a great teammate and a great guy. He’s kind of taken me under his wing and helped me get comfortable with not only him, but all the guys.”
Are you more convinced now that you’re ready to play in the NHL level than you were coming into this practice? Did this training camp make you feel like you belonged here?
“I think so. I’ve been trying to step up my game in juniors and getting ready for the next level. So I just wanted to do everything I can to make this team.”
Have you talked to either [Sean] Couturier or [Brayden] Schenn, guys that are closer to your age, to ask them what they went through?
“Yeah they were so successful in their first year and being so young, I take what I can from them and they’re so good defensively, too, so I think that really helps.”
Have you been told yet what’s going to happen?
“No, I haven’t. I’m just taking it day by day and trying to see if I can crack the opening roster.”
So is it going to be tough to sleep tonight?
“I think I’ll be alright. I thought I’ve done everything I can over this week and I’ll continue to do that tomorrow.”
What kind of influence has Hartsy been for you?
“He’s been huge, just getting comfortable with all the guys and he’s such a great guy, learning about everything it takes to be a pro. He’s been unbelievable for me.”
