It's time for Flyers GM Paul Holmgren to make a move for this underachieving, struggling team that he himself is responsible for it's slow start.
The Flyers need some veteran scoring help. Someone is not going to cost them their future.
The fans want Bobby Ryan but the FLyers could have had him any number of times last summer and chose to look away realizing the price was far too h igh.
Sean Couturier and Brayden Schenn, along with Claude Giroux, have to be protected. Ryan would cost you Couturier.
What is needed here is a short=term solution. My thought? Jarome Iginla. He's 35, he wants to win, he'd be willing to leave Calgary, and he won't cost the Flyers their future.
He would cost them Scott Laughton but this team has no choice right now.
Holmgren had no backup plan this summer when he could not land Shea Webber, Zach Parise and Ryan Suter.
From a forward scoring standpoint, Ruslan Fedotenko is neither Jaromir Jagr and right now, he's not even JVR. Can you believe James van Riemsdyk on the first unit power play in Toronto?
Luke Schenn and Bruno Gervais are not Chris Pronger and Matt Carle.
There are problems everywhere on this team, but scoring is the biggest right now and Iginla would help for the short term and buy time for Scott Hartnell to come back from injury.
He may be 35 but there are lots of goals left in that stick. And I feel Calgary GM Jay Feaster would deal.
Go or it.
