11:19 am, Monday:
Ryan looks like a good kid, it will be fun to watch him if they do a skills competition for hardest shot!
9:21 pm: Asleep at the wheel here. Since NBC Sports decided to turn off the draft, I started to ignore it.
At number 106, the Isles took another goalie: Stephon Willams. Art says Willilams is from Alaska. With the 136th pick, the Isles took a center from Sweden named Viktor Crus-Rydberg.
At number 166 the Isles named another Center Alan Quine (@Quiner26). He was originally drafted by Detroit, but was not signed, so back into the draft pool he went. Isles scouts must have seen something Detroit didn't. We'll see.
As the Isles seem to not have a starting goalie as of yet, Mr. Staple of Newsday feels that there will be an announcement within the next 48 hours as to DiPietro's buyout status -- or not.
7:42 pm: Okay, how many of you said "WTF, Clutterbuck?" earlier this afternoon?? I wasn't shocked about a Nino Niederreiter trade (as you know), I was just surprised with the return. But, Clutterbuck plays with an edge and we know that Matt Martin can't do it all by himself, so, Welcome Aboard.
It took quite awhile for them to announce the Clutterbuck trade. Those of us with Twitter knew all about it, but whe Chris King announced the trade (even before it was announced on the TV) there was a smattering of applause. No one threw anything at the screen and there was no sense of discontent. It is a shame as Nino will definitely become a very good player for many years. But sometimes -- things just don't work out the way you'd like.
I was very disappointed that the Isles didn't take that top ranked goalie. I was also suprirsed that his first round pick would be a D after chosing nothing but D last year. But from what everyone is saying about Ryan Pulock (@rpulock2) was a great pick for the Isles. Butchie likes him.
In 2011-12, Pulock was named to the WHL Eastern Conference First All-Star Team after posting 60 points (19 goals, 41 assists) in 71 games with Brandon. He represented Canada at the 2012 Under-18 World Junior Championships, scoring two points (one goal, one assist) in six games to help the club earn a bronze medal1pm: Well, the day we have waited for is here. Just a few more hours and we'll see what Garth Snow has up his sleeve for the 2013 NHL Draft.
Ryan has had some personal tragedies in his young life, but I'm sure he'll look to today as one of the best, being drafted at 15th overall in the NHL Entry Draft. Welcome Ryan.
With their 70th pick, the Isles did get a goalie. Not the one I wanted, but a good one none-the-less. Eamon McAdam, who will attend Penn State next season. @EamonMac35 is said to be an excellent fit for the Isles and he can make big saves through traffic. Nice.
With the 76th pick, the Isles announced Forward Taylor Cammarata. A teammate of McAdam's and the USHL player of the year for 2012-13. Seems litthe though as Newsday's Art Staple has him announced as 5'6". The next Marty St. Louis? Let's hope.
1 pm: I am heading to the Coliseum to be with the other fans who have decided being together for the NHL draft is the place to be on a Sunday afternoon in late June.
I will report back from the party and by then, we'll know what Mr. Snow has decided for his team this season.
Will he surprise everyone? Will he trade down? Will he make a blockbuster deal even before the floor opens? Will he just choose at number 15 for the first round and make deals after?
All the speculation we've gone through the past few months will finally be over. We'll have the answer.
