Meszaros "Attytude" Better; Giroux On Sked

So what is more significant as the Flyers gear up for training camp: the fact that Andrej Meszaros is physically healthy or ... that he has erased the mental demons that have hampered his recovery from numerous injuries the past three years?

It's not an easy question to answer. Most hockey players will tell you that once a player begins to suspect he's destined to be injured because of repeated injury, it will happen. Looking over your shoulder is not safe in this game. This isn't baseball where the only thing hitting you from behind is a white little ball.

Meszaros came into the Flyers facility late last week with a different, mental approach. A refreshing approach. He's not thinking about injury or the past or anything other than, "I am healthy and feeling good," which is not something he has been able to say for a very long time.

Flyers main camp opens next week and Meszaros figures to be the No. 6 or No. 7 just based on injury and availability status from the past. He has something to prove.

For a player who turns 28 next month, he's endured a lot of misfortune in a short period of time and needs to prove he's not damaged goods. He seems to know that.

Today, GM Paul Holmgren pronounced everyone healthy heading into the two camps with 2 notations. Meszaros still needs to pass his physical next week though no one thinks that will be an issue; Marc-Andre Bourdon is in the same boat.

Claude Giroux? His right index finger is healing just fine and doctors are pleased with his progress. Giroux told us he'll be ready for the real games on Oct. 2.

But back to Meszaros, I like the way he was talking on Wednesday - I didn't detect the apprehension I saw last season when asked about his recovery from this and that - he's had so many injuries.

Right now, things are looking better for the Flyers - health-wise - than any of us likely thought.
