SO MUCH TO SAY! And I can barely get the info out before it changes…but here goes..
If rumors of the trade deadline were already moving at 40 miles an hour, and Peter Forsberg is skating to Nashville at 20 MPH, when will they explode????
The Answer (you remembered to bring two #2 pencils correct?….btw, I would love to talk to someone who uses #1 or #3 pencils?)…sorry the Answer is NOW.
Forsberg to the Preds is a trade of monumental proportions. Truly a deal that may rival Butch Goring to the Isles. Everyone now is scrambling, and from what I am being told, this could not only open up the trade we have been talking about, but could also open the floodgates to some major moves.
The Minnesota Wild are looking to really do something I am hearing and have been talking to the Habs. The Habs would LOVE to get their hands on Pierre-Marc Bouchard, and it has been discussed, but it would take a major roster player of course to get him. I am however hearing that a major deal involving the two teams is “around 60%” likely right now.
The Ducks, who were in the Forsberg race until the last second, will ABSOLUTELY react by getting a major piece, and I am hearing that Tkachuk or Guerin, (possibly even both) are on their radar screen. Also the Ducks have reportedly made some inquiries regarding Jokinen from Florida and {~) (the player formerly known as Anson Carter)
The Leafs have made some calls about everyone’s favorite #97, and sometime Hockeybuzz blogger (friend of the site’s), Jeremy Roenick. Who can name the last big goal JR scored in Toronto? The Leafs are also heavily into Roberts and Tkachuk.
Rumors from the Western Tundra have The Edmonton Oilers closing in on a deal and are looking at defensemen including Markov from Montreal, Brewer, and also possibly, that’s right kids Brian Leetch.
The Sharks, another team in the Forsberg sweeps, will likely make the biggest push for Guerin, but don’t be surprised if the Sabres now go hard after Tkachuk or Guerin.
In Buffalo, due to Maxim’s unfortunate injury, the pressure is mounting to move Marty Biron, and the Lightning are the team that really could use him…The Lightning’s Jay Feaster was on XM radio and stated the team needs 7 home playoff games to make money, and the ownership will not allow the team to spend to the cap if they lose money again this year. Jay said he expects the team’s personal cap would fall to 40 next year and it is possible that he would have to look at breaking up the big three. There are sources ALREADY saying that the Habs would essentially “trade the farm” to get Vinny this summer, and given all the prospects picks and players that could come back to Tampa, I imagine it could set up the Lightning for YEARS to come.
For now look to the Sabres to possibly move Biron for Fedotenko and then make another small deal to pick up either Ed Belfour or Brian Boucher to backup “Miller time.”
Keith Primeau has been added to the cast of Sportsnet’s Trade Deadline Show, so there will be two Philly guys in Toronto that day. There was an amazing interview on XM last week where Phil Esposito told Keith that “during the 04 playoffs when you and the Flyers took the Lightning to seven games, you were the most dominating player I ever saw. More than Orr, Howe, Gretzky, or anyone.” Quite a compliment form Espo.
I will be adding my story of how the whole Forsberg thing was broken in a bit, but I wanted to get these rumors out first.
Our server got killed last night at 7pm, and rest assured we are working out plans to speed it up, even though I have been told there is little you can do when something of that magnitude breaks..…If personally you have a speedy server and want to advertise to a ton of folks, please email me at
[email protected] We continue to dump tons of money into server upgrades so we are thankful for all of you who are supporting the site and buying season tickets.
Our site traffic yesterday (even with the issues) was over 475,000 Unique Pageviews. A new Hockeybuzz.com record.
I am now going into
