Well, how do you like that! Nabokov CAN steal a game for the Isles! When asked why his record against the Capitals is so good, Nabokov said because he knows how competitive his fellow Russian is.
Michael Neuvirth earned the first star with his 28 saves, but the 22 saves Nabokov made earned him the shut-out.
Andrew MacDonald scored the games' only goal in the third period with the lone assist going to Brock Nelson. Immediately, everyone on Twitter put AMac up for sale. Certainly, teams are were watching.
So two points for the Isles, a shut-out for Nabokov and a goal for AMac. All this while Isles fans were CERTAIN the Isles would lose tonight. I'm starting to tihnk that we should all just be as negative as possible and the Isles will prove us wrong.
Speaking of negatives: Michael Grabner was awarded a penalty shot which of course, he missed. Along with other shots. Thomas Vanek was hooked as he went in towards Neuvirth, but he only drew a penalty for that one, not a penalty shot. Had he been given one, the Isles woul d have won by two.
NBCSN made a HUGE faux pas when they put up Matt Moulson's photo with Thomas Vanek's name while he was in the penalty box for hooking. I suppose that comes from not having the Isles on the national feed that often.
All in all -- the game was rather boring even though it was filled with penalties and a Matt Martin fight. Cal Clutterbuck was entertaining though.
They'll take the points, even though the hole is deep.
