FLYERS ROUNDUP: AUGUST 7, 2015

* Flyers club president Paul Holmgren will serve as an assistant general manager for Team USA at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey. USA Hockey announced on Thursday that the 2014 Lester Patrick Award winning executive will work in conjunction with LA Kings general manager Dean Lombardi, who will serve as head GM of the American team.

Holmgren has been deeply involved with USA Hockey for many years, including five years (2009-14) as part of the men's national team advisory group. He was the assistant general manager of the men's team for the 2006 Olympics in Turin. During his coaching days, he was an assistant coach under Ron Wilson when the American team won the championship at the 1996 World Cup of Hockey. He was also an assistant coach for Team USA at the 1998 Olympics in Nagano; the first time the NHL participated in the Olympics.

In addition to filling the GM and assistant GM posts, USA Hockey announced that Calgary Flames hockey operations director Brian Burke will serve as senior adviser and that assistant executive director of USA Hockey Jim Johansson will director of hockey ops for the American team.

* The Lehigh Valley Phantoms announced their three-game preseason schedule before the start of the 2015-16 campaign. Two of the three games will be held at the PPL Center in Allentown. The breakdown:

Wednesday, September 30, 2015, 7:00 PM @ Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins
Saturday, October 3, 2015, 7:05 PM vs. Hartford Wolf Pack
Sunday, October 4, 2015, 5:05 PM vs. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins

* Scoring three times in the third period, Team Sweden defeated Team USA by a 5-2 count at the Junior National Team Evaluation Camp tournament in Lake Placid on Thursday. Flyers goaltending prospect Felix Sandström bounced back after getting strafed for 10 goals on 39 shots in the previous game against Team USA White by holding the combined American roster (players chosen from USA Blue and USA White squads) to two goals on 27 shots. He best save was a breakaway stop on Kyle Connor. The Swedes killed off six of seven American power plays.

Flyers prospect Oskar Lindblom missed his second straight game with a lower-body injury. He officially remains day-to-day.

The Junior Crowns (2-1-0) finish their portion of the tournament on Thursday with a clash against archrival Finland (1-1-1) on the 1980 Rink. Game time is 2 p.m. EDT.

* Team Canada dispatched Team Czech Republic, 6-2, at the World Junior Summer Showcase on Thursday night. Flyers prospect Nicolas Aube-Kubel, who had two assists in the previous game against the Czechs, did record a point. He started the game on left wing of a line with Brayden Point and Nick Merkley.

Fellow Flyers prospect David Kase did not record a point in the game. Although not listed in the official box score for the game on the Hockey Canada site, he played on a line with Michal Spacek and Radek Vesely.
