First off... big thanks to Eklund for an impassioned and reasoned post regarding hockey in Nashville. He gets it... a lot of people really get it... unfortunately, most of the media, especially the media in "traditional" markets don't... and they may never get it.
So... it's rally-eve... The planning is almost complete, meetings have been going on fairly consistantly for the past week, who will do what? How do we get a turnout? How do we sell a bunch of tickets? Big kudos have to go out to folks like Willy Daunic and George Plaster for driving this... The 104.5 gang will be broadcasting live the entire time from the concourse studio.
The Predators rally is tomorrow from 6am - 9pm at the Sommet Center. It is imperative that every Predator fan in Nashville comes out. Every fan needs to bring a friend to buy a season ticket. Bug your boss... if the company you work for does not have season tickets, ask 'em to buy a pair... what can it hurt?
As I write this, it appears that a local ownership group is about to enter into a letter of intent to buy the team. While that is incredible news and a big win for Nashville hockey fans... it does not change the mission. The sense of urgency is still there...
The team needs more corporate support. We the fans can drive this. We can bug the hell out of every business you do business with to support the team. You can thank the businesses that do support the Preds by making sure they succeed because of it. Get your insurnace through State Farm or Allstate... Use Sprint or AT&T for your phone service... Buy a Chrysler at Hansen downtown or a Ford at Two Rivers Ford... Buy a venti at Starbucks... Stay at the Renaissance (why the Hilton Suites across from the Sommet is not a season ticket holder escapes me... most of the teams stay there! Talk about biting the hand that feeds you!) Eat at Jack in the Box, or Taco Bell, or Hardees. You get the idea... let the management know that your business is driven by their choices in supporting the Predators.
Come out to the Sommet Center in your Predators finest. Let XM and the rest of the media see exactly the kind of hockey town Nashville is...
I'll be there tomorrow, Eklund is flying in, come up and say hi, and let's have a party.
