Pete's World
There are signs everywhere that Peter Forsberg may be closer to returning than previously thought. Talking to a few sources yesterday and today, I found what I was hearing rather suprising. The source I talked to told me the following:
"I honestly think Peter will return in December and it is down to three teams. Philadelphia, Nashville and Ottawa. Yes Ottawa. There is a possibility regarding Colorado, but as of now there is no discussion. There has been discussion with the other three teams. Ottawa was again discussed two nights ago."
Another source noted, as Bill Meltzer did yesterday, that Simon Gagne was the only player from outside Europe that Peter had on his charity tour in Scandinavia. The source said Peter "absolutely loved playing with Simon Gagne and is extremely impressed with what the Flyers have done since he left the team, and noted that Peter has told people that "winning in Philadelphia would be absolutely amazing to be a part of."
Leafs are VERY close to a major deal?
There have been many reports that the Leafs and Peca have started up intense talks. That is of course telling because we all know that there is no point talking to Peca unless you can sign him under your cap. It won't be cheap to get Peca. The Rangers are a player (which I would assume would mean that Avery would not be kept) and Carolina has serious interest along with Buffalo...
As for the Leafs attempt to make cap space, the one name that has surfaced as tradeable is Stajan. This rumour does have some legs to it, but also feels a little odd to me...
The source I talked to said that although three teams (Vancouver, Dallas, and Minnesota) are rumoured to be interested in Stajan, my source feels that the Stajan rumours may be a carefully planned Diversion Tactic..
Teams use these all the time...Leak a rumor that is plausable while you are working on something bigger to throw off the scent. This feels like one of those situations to me, but I could be completely wrong. It is hard to tell...
I continue to hear a few other deals on the table from sources that aren't linked directly to the team (and their possible agendas). The one would send Raycroft to LA, but the OTHER one...that is worth thinking about...
According to three seperate sources, all with most of the same names involved, there is a RUMOUR of a three-way trade with Boston, San Jose in Toronto. I am hearing some picks and prospects may be involved and the general consensus on the key players are Marleau, Kubina, Glen Murray, Axelson, and Grier, Colaiacovo, and Devereaux.
The only team/player that everyone agrees upon is that Kubina would end up in San Jose...beyond that....I just don't know where the other players are going as of yet...
And furthermore, I can't imagine how many times we will talk abut this, but I will update this as it continues and if I get any more information or specifics at ANY time I will let you know...
Here on Long Island...
It looks like the Isles may just hold tight for a while longer here. There are still four very good Dmen out there in Markov, Berard, Brisbois, and Sutton. I would expect the Isles to land 1 or 2 of the first three in the next month, while I believe Sutton will end up in either Columbus or LA.
Rangers and Yotes talking Jovo.
I continue to talk to more and more sources who confirm that there have been talks between the Rangers and Yotes regarding Jovonavski. When I talked to a source close to the Rangers organization and questioned him on the cap implications he said very matter-of-fact, "It can be worked out. There is a way to get a guy like that on board." Then he outlined some interesting scenarios that made sense...Suffice to say the feeling is if you can get an impact player, quite a few of your players that are now highly regarded could be moved out or sent down...
