Sources are telling me the term is a one year deal for just under 3 million.

according to tsn ryder has signed with the habs...so this story below is Really timely...lol

As we all know it is virtually impossible to get information regarding the Montreal Canadiens and anything they are trying. You sure aren't going to get it directly from the decision makers on 1260 De la Gauchetière Ouest without some seriously crafted wording.

However, all the talk over the last 24 hours of Brisebois returning to Montreal is not that surprising...he is still a valuable guy. Perhaps not a 1 or 2 spot that he was once needed to fill (and some would say struggled to be in Montreal) but the ex-Hab can add much stability and depth to a D-corps that could use it...

Except for one thing. I talk to agents all the time and I have NEVER been given numbers regarding negotiations with Bob Gainey. That is very rare and the fact that there are numbers leaking out right now regarding Brisbois makes me ask the question..."Whose Agenda is it Anyway?"

This is not to say that anyone is evil for pushing their own agendas, everyone has a job to do, but I spend a ton of time weeding through those agendas and I am fairly tuned into them.

Don Meehan is one of the most experienced agents in the game and Gainey and Meehan have worked together on various players for years. Meehan doesn't admit to anyone talking to anyone unless he knows it is OK to do so with the big boss.

But this news may have more to do with Danny Markov than Patrice Brisebois. There are two teams that now have interest in both players. The Islanders and the Canadiens. Funny how little things have changed since last April....

There is also talk now that Markov is seriously considering Russia. Markov is looking for around $3M per for one year, and he may not be able to get that in Montreal, but the Isles certainly have enough money to sign him. Three other teams that like Markov are Washington, Columbus, and possibly Nashville.

Right now however my sources in Montreal are very matter of fact about the fact that Ryder is priority #1. The two sides are less than 2 days away from an arbitration case that will be devastating towards the future of Ryder in Montreal. There are some serious comparisons some people are drawing to Gomez a year ago, and we all know how that ended. If Ryder gets $5M for one year, you don't have to go to far to realize that he'll be in my top ten UFAs next summer.

And then there is the trade front...I have been told that the "Post-Ryder Arbitration" Habs will be very active on the trade front and their number one goal is a scoring forward...Marleau has been discussed since prior to the draft and is still target #1, but Marian Hossa and Cammalleri are also on the radar....

I am also being told to expect that the Leafs and Sabres are both talking trade with different teams, and that the Leafs are serious about Marleau as well. Kubina to the Yotes is a strong (e3)...

The local Nashville Group's talks to buy the Preds are going "slow but steady" and reports are that they have been given a little more time to get everything in order. This week will be a HUGE week for them.
