The Kingdom of Flyerdom shook today when Kimmo Timonen collided hard with goalie Antero Niittymaki during practice.

Timonen suffered a sore right groin injury but both he and trainer Jim McCrossin said he was fine about 30 minutes later. Still, past injury with groin injuries suggest you have to be careful in the days ahead.

Timonen is listed as "probable" for Saturday;s game in New York against the Rangers.

This happened at the end of a 90-minute skate in which players were doing their sprints and skating drills. Timonen was skating backward and Niittymaki was skating forward with his head down.

"I hurt my right groin a little bit,” Timonen said. “He’s a Finnish goalie, so I can give him some words. He said he was sorry and that he didn’t see me. He was probably pushing so hard and had his head down.”

Niitty said he was trying to avoid running into Denis Gauthier and ran into Timonen, instead.

In my mind, it's significant when a player the team has spent $37.8 million on gets steamrolled in practice.

It bears watching in the days ahead.

Coach John Stevens admits he held his breath.

“Yeah , I got a little winded,” Stevens said.

Defenseman Rory Fitzpatrick has a rib innjury from earlier in the week in a contact drill with Nate Guenin. He could miss a week.

Back spasms for Jim Dowd ... He is day-to-day ... I'm sure Dowd wants to play against the Devils next week in Philly.

Flyers are prepping for a bit of a scrimmage here ...

I saw Jim Dowd driving out of Skate Zone as I came here about an hour ago.

I'm wondering what the deal is. I didn't see Dowd with the regulars yesterday. Is he hurt? Or was he cut? Dowd played against Ottawa.

Trying to get some answers ...

Congrats to Tim Graham, who left the Buffalo News for Palm Beach Post to cover the Miami Dolphins. Tim, you might want to sell all your winter clothing to Garth.
