Wrapping up a three-game homestand that has not gone as hoped thus far, Lindy Ruff's Dallas Stars (38-19-6) host Jeff Blashill's Detroit Red Wings (31-20-11) on Monday night. Game time at the American Airlines Center is 7:30 p.m. CT. The game will be televised on Fox Sports Southwest.
This is the second and final meeting of the season between the inter-conference clubs. On Nov. 8 in Detroit, the Stars skated to a 4-1 win. The Stars will look to complete a series sweep and snap a six-game home winless streak against the Red Wings, dating back to Oct. of the 2010-11 season when Detroit was still in the Western Conference.
The Stars have only won one of their last six games (1-4-1) overall and have lost four of their last five games in regulation. The club started the month of February with a 6-1-0 run after the All-Star break but is now 7-5-1 entering the final day of the month, which also overlaps with the NHL Trade Deadline at 2 p.m. CT.
Since the calendar flipped to 2016, Dallas is a combined 10-11-3. The team is now one point behind the Chicago Blackhawks for first place in the Central Division and the top spot in the Western Conference.
Dallas enters this game coming off a hard-fought 3-2 home loss to the New York Rangers on Saturday. The Stars played better than they had in most of their recent games but were sunk by a late third period goal by the Rangers' Kevin Klein scored shortly after Valeri Nichushkin (two goals, three points in the last three games) tallied a game-tying goal. Colton Sceviour scored midway through the second period to erase a 1-0 deficit. Kari Lehtonen stopped 26 of 29 shots in a losing cause for the Stars.
Travis Moen has been activated from injured reserve (groin injury) after an eight-game absence and is available to play against the Red Wings. Patrick Eaves (suspected pneumonia) remains out of the lineup. Ales Hemsky (illness) is questionable.
The Red Wings enter this game coming off an emotional 5-3 win over the Colorado Avalanche in a Stadium Series game at Coors Field on Saturday. The game between the archrivals was tied at 3-3 entering the final minute of regulation until former Stars center Brad Richards put Detroit ahead with 60 seconds left in the third period. Darren Helm tacked on an empty netter in the final 20 seconds to ice a two-goal win. Overall, the Red Wings have won back-to-back games and the team is 2-0-2 in its last four matches.
Drew Miller (knee) is on injured reserve for Detroit.
