I'm not going to make this long as every writer on Long Island has already weighed in on 45 minutes of painful NY Sports radio. Every minute reinforced why I opt to listen to Canadian sports radio instead of our own NY sports station.
You can check Newsday for Jim Baumbach's article on their new re-vamped and highly buggy website, and you can check my buddy,
IslandersCrazy for his take on today's interview.
I will only say the following:
A) Charles Wang should probably run for public office himself as he was able to keep his compsure while correcting errors made by his host.
B) Anyone who didn't realize that Scott Gordon's contract was three years, and believes the information Mr. Wang revealed about it was an "ooppsss" ... hasn't been reading articles on NHL coach's contracts for very long. Interim coaches generally get a 1 year deal. New coaches generally get a 3 year deal. It just seems to be the norm.
C) Garth Snow was Charles Wang's first choice as GM, but he backed down and hired (currently still unemployed) Neil Smith. To me, that seemed like a good vote of confidence for our GM as he continues his vision of rebuilding this team.
D) Francesa referenced Newsday articles that eluded to the health of Rick DiPietro without actually crediting the articles or the writers. Sorry, isn't that actually Journalism 101? If you're going to quote something, aren't you supposed to say where you're quoting it from? Tsk Tsk! Guess it doesn't count because he's a seasoned radio host and not a lowly blogger. But then again, he didn't read Arthur Staple's article closely enough to get the facts straight, so why say it was a quote -- right?
I know there was speculation that Mike was referencing blog articles on DiPietro, but in all actuality, considering his lack of Hockey knowledge, do you really think he's READ any hockey blogs recently if EVER? I highly doubt it.
A far better radio segment this afternoon was Chris Botta on XM 204. At least his hosts were not looking to incite the ire of Islanders fans as they were listening.
Okay, I really want to read over notes I've been gathering on Rick DiPietro for an entry. So I'll leave you to have at it. Although I can't imagine how much more you can say considering the last set of comments had over 300 entries.
If there's one thing Islanders fans are -- it's passionate and yappy!
Stay dry tonight!
