**Please excuse any typos you see tonight as I don't have time to go over this. Too much on my plate tonight. So, please... bear with me. Also, photos on www.7thwoman.blogspot.com
Yes, I made it to the press conference this morning.... 20 minutes late thanks to construction on the Southern State Parkway. WHAT? You figured the Governor was in town so you had to show you guys were actually working????
What should have taken me 16 minutes took me 40 along with about 5 years off my life (and I don't have any to spare.)
I missed the first part of the speeches but I was told that Kate Murray actually received a nice round of applause as she said all the right things.... in a very cautious manner. DAMN! That woman has a great speech writer. Supportive without being committal.
It was a good crowd of media and some fans standing out in the hot sun listening to the group of politicians, civic leaders and developers. There were smiles, lots and lots of smiles. There were jokes and general levity. There was a feeling of good will.
What there wasn't was an absolute. That still is yet to come. But the good thing is that with the Governor's support, he urged all parties to move ahead. Of course he mentioned that all parties will have a chance to speak and that problems will need to be addressed, but at least he understands the impact this project will have on the area.
That's an impact in the POSITIVE sense. Not one of devastating meteor.
"The Lighthouse Project has the potential to be one of the most important economic development initiatives we have ever seen on Long Island and is precisely the kind of economic stimulus that we need here. That's why I am directing our State agencies to expedite their review of this project. Our government agencies need to work diligently and swiftly to ensure that this project can move forward as quickly as possible so that we can begin to put people back to work right here on Long Island." -- Gov. David Paterson
"Hempstead town officials are focused on innovative and progressive development. The key in reviewing all development proposals of the magnitude of the Lighthouse project is to be thorough and complete in our work. After all, the decisions we make today will affect our children and grandchildren." -- ToH Supervisor Kate Murray
Do you see the difference? Basically, Paterson says move it or lose it and Murray said they're not changing the way they work. But she did say it with a smile and everyone was happy.
Let's see how happy everyone is on August 4th when the next big meeting is held at Hofstra. Hopefully, she'll still be all smiles. Unless there are no cameras on.
