John Tavares Comes Through for 11-Year-Old |

When Islanders Captain John Tavares heard the story of the kid in Winnipeg who was harassed repeatedly at the Isles vs. Jets game on Tuesday, March 4th, he knew something had to be done. No 11-year-old fan should have to take that sort of abuse just for being an Islanders fan, and especially not for just wearing a John Tavares jersey in Winnipeg. No, this wasn’t right. (The story was reported by PAUL FRIESEN of the WINNIPEG SUN.)
He picked up the phone and called the Islanders PR Director on Monday and told him to find Jake Lotocki for him. Never one to refuse the request of the Captain, he did last night and let Jake’s mother know that John Tavares is sending a new jersey to their house for Jake.
But why stop there, once the schedule comes out for next season, they will get back in touch and hammer out details for Jake and his Mom to attend a morning skate when they are back in Winnipeg.
At least now, the Lotockis have a better story to tell about hockey then being picked on at an Islander game.
Sideboard: Michael Grabner has been diagnosed with a concussion. No word on when he will return. My guess is September.
