11:28 pm: It happens every time. No sooner do I have to shut down the connection on the computer than the game changes.
But you know how it ended. As one fan leaving the coliseum said "If they keep breaking our hearts like this, no one will show up." Heart breaking was the only way to explain it.
They came so close. When PA Parenteau scored the Isles third goal, the crowd was on their feet as if they had won a play off game. They came so close.
In the locker room John Tavares just shook his head when asked about the lack of penalty calls. PA Parenteau felt the same way. He said he had never see back to back games with no penalty calls.
During the drive home, Chris King mentioned that the Leafs had a pretty dismal PK. I wonder if that was the reason? Oh, now I'm just being a conspiracy theorist.
But you have to admit, it was just a little odd. Especially when Jay Pandolfo was bleeding, AMac had a blodd nose and JT had a strawberry on his cheek that was swelling up, No calls. No calls. Just odd.
Okay, and here is the photo of Mike Meyers in section 218 taking in the game. He left after the Leafs 3rd goal. I'm sure he was somewhere downstairs, but nice that he didn't look for any special treatment.
9:26 pm: With 25 seconds left to the game, PA Parenteau brings the Isles crowd to their feet with a beautiful goal straight in the back of the Monster's net.
9:24 pm: Chant of Refs Suck well deserved.
9:01: with a cross check by Jurcina on MacArthur, Montoya couldn't handle a puck with MacArthur in his lap. Goal by Gardiner ties the game at two.
Josh Bailey has a few great chances as the pucks seems to find him even when he's struggling to keep up.
8:36 pm: I have no freakin' internet connection in the press box, so following the game is impossible here. Nice goal by Bailey, bad hit by Phil Kessel behind the net on JT with no call.
Third will get chippy for sure. Plan for Matt Martin to look to take someone out. Look for Phaneuf to be gunning for Nino. Look for me being aggravated that I can't get anything written.
7:13 pm: And that's how you're supposed to start a game with a quick JT goal.
And no internet to speak of here in the press box.
2 pm: With a late flight home after last night's shut out, there was no morning skate or morning presser so we don't know if Al Montoya will be making his first start since his concussion.
Jack Capuano should be speaking at 5 pm pre-game and should announce the decision then. With luck, he's been doing his homework and has found a way to ensure the Isles do not hit the ice flat or tentative or hesitant or scared or whatever else he'd like to call it. I call it losing.
The good thing is the Isles luck has been with them at home, so let's keep THAT streak going.
And no more injuries please! Isles Man Games Lost in 2011-12 are up to 230. Speaking of injury, with the injury to Calvin deHaan it is now Casey Cizikas who will be representing at the AHL All Star game. Again, an honor for a young man making his way up the hockey food chain. I know a good one in Darryl Bootland who is still toiling in the ECHL for the Kalamazoo K Wings and scoring and fighting night after night.
I'd like to take this opportunity to publically thank Newsday Reporter Art Staple for his recent comments and general disdain for the way John Tavares has been talked about in the "national" media lately.
Geeze Art -- you'd almost think you were a fan. Be careful. Newsday doesn't like that sort of thing.
Game time information should it come through, but see you at the game -- Last one before the All Star dog and pony show in Ottawa. Praying they get the cold weather they need for all the festivities.
