Isles vs. Devils & Scott Gordon On WPLJ |

**Yann Danis will be in net for the Devils tonight facing the team that gave him a chance to show he can play in the NHL. Also, looking forward to the return of Patrick 'watch me pull a goal out of my butt' Elias.
I’m cheating. There was no practice yesterday and I have no idea if the morning skate is in Jersey or on LI today so here are some quotes from Scott Gordon’s weekly interview on 94.3 FM WMJC Long Island. It’s not exactly “Coach’s Corner” but I’m sure a lot of you didn’t hear it.
Now, Gordon has to be pleased with what the team had been able to do this past week, even with the loss In Buffalo.
“We’ve done some things we haven’t been able to do. Whether it be closing out a game, getting a substantial lead into a third period, coming from behind, winning in overtime. So there are plenty of things that have transpired over the past week. There’s a good feeling in our room. We’ve got a tough schedule coming up and it won’t get any easier.”
The schedule seems to be something a lot of teams are struggling with. Part of it is due to the Olympic break coming up in – 98 Days! – so many teams are spending extended time on the road getting all the games in that are necessary.
But road trips aren’t necessarily a bad thing for a team that is trying to find their way.
“It will be a good test for us. How we do during this stretch will really dictate how the rest of the year will play out for us. I think that when you’re on the road, everyone talks about being 500, and having a winning record on the road for a successful season. And certainly that is our objective, to try to be 500. Anything we can do over that is going to be a bonus. It’ll be a tough stretch. But we’re healthy and we have two goalies who are playing well and we’re going to need every body.”
Everybody but Robbie Schremp and Blake Comeau, Coach? The radio host didn’t ask that question.
Tonight the Isles face the Devils and Scott Gordon hopes for quick transition.
“With the Devils and Jacques LeMaire as their Coach, they’re going to be very good defensively and they’re not going to make it easy to get to the neutral zone and it’s important for us to make our transition quick.”
The winning streak cut at four hasn’t changed Gordon’s mind about what his team can do. He know’s it’s not going to be easy to win.
“There are no easy games for us. Every time I look at the schedule and I think we’re might be getting a break, you look at it and there ARE no breaks. So the biggest thing is we don’t have to worry about the opposition, we just have to make sure we worry about ourselves and do what we have to do to be successful.”
Maybe tonight, they can begin a new winning streak. Maybe?
