Congratulations to the 47% of you that believed the Isles would win last night's game. I really didn't think there would have been that many. But as Katie Strang told SiriusXMNHL radio yesterday, never underestimate the passion and loyalty of Islander fans. I'm impressed.

As the game started with the Rangers in control, it took Girardi only 3:36 to get one behind Nabokov and another seven minutes for Gaborik to find the net. I was resigned to another loss. But it seems that Doug Weight, who is reported to have been the one giving the post first period locker room pep talk, wasn't. The Isles came out with a rejuvenated energy. (What was Jack doing?)

Twenty-nine seconds into the second, Collin McDonald scored his second goal. I swore I heard the arena announcer call it for Martin. Damn. Okay, that was an error on my part. It was McDonald's second of the year. Then Tavares scored his eighth to tie it up at two and Brad Boyes gave the Isles the lead on a great play by Visnovsky.

What I thought was a bad call on Brian Strait for interferrence led to Hagelin's game tying power play goal. It was a disapointment.

It took a shoot out to finalize this game, the Isles first of the season. Frans Nielsen is STILL Mr. Shoot Out and Marty Biron was surprised. He thought he had him. JT , with that little whisp of hair sticking out of the front of his helmet, beat Biron for the game winner.

Nabokov had stopped both Gaborik and Nash and should be commended for that. But in all honesty, I would have liked to see the game decided in regulation. No need to give the Rangers a point.

Sideboard: I noticed that Boulton played a total of 1:36 including his fight with Aaron Asham. Asham played only 2:47. They spent far more time in the box than they did on the ice and a LOT of time doing nothing. Did their fight set the tone? Did they really need that? Okay. Maybe.

Finally, Captain Mark Streit played almost a full 30 minutes. Is he being over used?
