Where Have All the Bloggers Gone? |

Gone to Montreal every one…What will they stand to learn? What will they poss-E-blee learn?
Sorry, the 40th Anniversary of Woodstock has me reaching back in time. But yes, the Bloggerazi will be descending on Montreal like a swarm of Blackberry carrying locusts. I am jealous.
Montreal will be one huge Hockey party this entire week and the biggest, brightest and best that New Media has to offer will be there and part of it. This is like New Year’s Eve in Times Square for the hockey world. The 2009 NHL Entry draft stands to be one of the best in years, while the 2010 and 2011 are shaping up to be less than stellar. (If you can actually take stock in watching, 15-year-old boys play hockey and projecting what they will do at 18.)
Bloggers from every corner of the hockey universe will bring us, the fans, unprecedented multi-media coverage. Moreover, while they say they are doing it for the fans that cannot be there, I’m pretty certain they just want to be able to say “I was there when…..” Again, I am freakin’ jealous.
Since our number 30th finish New York Islanders hold the number one draft pick, a large chunk of our NYI Blog Box is making the trip.
Tom Liodice of The Tiger Track will be “Live Blogging” the event for the NY Islanders main website.
Doug Davison from islesofficialsoutlook.blogspot.com will have an interactive chat through CoverItLive beginning at 5:30 pm on Friday night. Ask him your questions and he will see if he can get them answered.
IslesBlogger.com Mike Schuerlein will be offering up videos and photos of the event so you’ll feel as if you are right there with him.
OkposoNet.com Ken Dick will be offering his dry wit and first class verse while looking for someone new to follow on the streets of Montreal.
HockeyBuzz’s Big Daddy Eklund, the inventor of the S’more-norah, ( you’d get that reference if you’re on Twitter) will certainly be there weaving his way through the crowds, getting the juicy details and renewing high-profile affiliations, all while blogging and Tweeting around the clock I‘m sure.
Islanders GM Garth Snow won’t be the only one making history this weekend as Twitter’s Grand dame of the NHLTweetUP, @dani3boyz will be the hostess-with-the -mostess at the first ever NHLDraftTweetUp. So many great hockey people and Twitterers have been meticulously working to put this ground breaking event together. Kudos to @All_Habs, @kyleroussel, @amandafortier and @metricjulie.
If you’re going to be in Montreal and you use Twitter, make sure you RSVP and signup for this first ever event.
Yep, this weekend futures will begin and history of all sorts will be made. There are 453 prospects. There are 210 North American skaters, 200 European skaters, 30 North American Goalies and only 13 European Goalies. Of this list, potentially 243 kids will go un-drafted.
I’m sorry, I know the USOpen was a big event here on the Island and it seemed to take over much of the media coverage; but it was GOLF. The word alone makes me want to nap. They even banned electronic devices at Bethpage Black everywhere but the hospitality tents! How AMISH of them! But we are HOCKEY fans. The most progressive, passionate fans in all of sports, and we embrace the future.
Come Friday… the Future is NOW.
Tomorrow Newsday will stop by my office to ask my thoughts on the next hot prospect to wear the NY Islanders sweater. I’ll let you know what I manage to say tomorrow night.
Crap. I’ve been affiliated with HockeyBuzz for less than 24 hours and already Newsday wants to talk to me. Ugghh…. The pressure!
