Will the Isles Be Blue in St. Louis? 5-1 Blues |

10:28 pm: Jack with Peter post game said "We went into the game knowing how important it was. I thought we made some adjustments and played pretty well. Special teams were a factor. Their goalie made some big saves. Gotta go back and get ready for Saturday night.
If you look at the tape, just snap shots, they have good net presence. We have to block pucks. We understand the importance of the game. They're all big points right now. Obviously we can learn something from this game, but we have to get ready for Saturday."
When he was thanked for taking the time, Jack said "Not a problem."
I don't know... Is there no real passion in this guy? Is he more like a high-school coach not wanting to say there was a problem tonight?
10:20 pm: Another Blues penalty, but the Isles give up another short handed opporuntiy for Berrglund. Montoya makes the save but isn't sure where the hell the puck is. He makes snow angles trying to find out.
Will there be ANYTHING that Capuano will find anything good to say about this game?
10:12 pm: Did I mention frustration? Yes, John Tavares called for slashing and sits in the box with about seven minutes left of the game. As Jiggs said, they're just looking to get through the end of the third at this point.
10:06 pm: Nino can't get a goal, but he can draw penalties. Unfortunately, the Isles could do nothing with it.
10:01 pm: With the Isles back on the power play after a holding call, Matt Moulson takes a puck to the face and still tries to back the puck in from inside the paint. He is denied.
The frustration is mounting for this team as PA Parenteau looks to get into it and is held off by a zebra.
They're now mid way through the third and not looking any closer to finding the back of Elliot's net.
9:50 pm: Matt Moulson returned to the ice to start the third period. good thing.
9:27 pm: Oshie makes it 5 - 1 on a deflection with Jurcina in front of the net. Are we going to seven? I say seven.
The Isles get a power play opportunity as the stick is knocked out of his hands by Polak. The Power Play is not only ineffective but they lost Moulson on it as welll. Off to the room to check his hand that was obviously in pain.
9:22 pm: Well, maybe Nabokov is sicker than we think. As Butchie was explaining how hard it is for a goaltender to come into a game cold the way Montoya has to, he mentioned that Nabokov is not on the bench. He's back in the room.
QUARANTINE!!!
9:15 pm: Make that 4 - 1 as Perron scores a power play goal for his 11th of the season. This game quickly got out of reach for the Isles.
9:09 pm: Islesblogger.com Mike just made a statement I can't argue with. He said that was exhibits A - Z why Nino Niederreiter needs better line mates. It's true. That was a perfect pass at the right time and Pandolfo couldn't finish.
Meanwhile, John Tavares is getting knocked around by the Blues as they are all over him making sure the Isles leader can't get anything going.
Aaron Ness takes a penalty, but I really don't think it was warrented. He took down Andy McDonald so he's called for tripping and the Isles are back on the PK.
9:04 pm: AND.... the trade deadline just got a little more interesting. With the Isles down 3 - 1 early in the second period, I cannot imagine this team getting anywhere near playoffs. Meaning -- changes are definitely possible. And the first one to go will be the man sitting on the bnech in a wool cap chewing gum.
Where you want to go Evgeni?
8:58 pm: They changed the goal credit for the Blues. Do you care?
Okay, my Twitter friends who made the trip said the arena is very nice and they're not getting heckled for wearing Isles gear. Okay, maybe a little, but in a friendly way.
Montoya just got lucky s the puck clanked off the post saving a short handed Blues goal.
It doesn't even look like the Isles are on a power play.
8:38 pm: ugh, With Nielsen in the box, the Blues take a 2 - 1 lead while Montoya was screened. Backes was screening and tipped it in behind him past Montoya.
8:33 pm: The Blues get on the board to even up the score, much to the dismay of the Isles and their fans in attendance. Two of whom travelled from Ohio for FIVE hours to be there. They'll even be travelling back home TONIGHT and not staying over! That's devotion!
8:10 pm: It took 59 seconds for Frans Nielsen to find the back of the Blues net after Al Montoya had to make a pretty good save on the other side of the ice. But I won't get my hopes up since they had a one goal lead the last game they lost.
7:32 pm: Interesting turn of events isn't it? Nabokov "under the weather" so Montoya gets the pipes. Ty Wishart in for Steve Staois. Odd no?
1:50 pm: Looks like Jack is sticking with the plan. Nabby in net... again... Getting concerned here.
12:44 pm: Also, if you're interested in our political process at work, Scott Clinco from SaveTheIsles did an excellent recap of his gruelling time spent at the Nassau Leg on Tuesday. http://savetheisles.blogspot.com/2012/02/recap-of-my-afternoon-at-legislature.html
Okay, let's get this day started.
The Isles had a day off in St. Louis yesterday and had some dinner and maybe even a little R&R. Seems the #danishprince picked up a tab to celebrate his new contract while PA Parenteau will wait until the end of the playoff hunt to discuss his future with the Isles.
Newsday's Mark Herrmann had a pleasant article today regarding Andy MacDonald and his willingness to "do anything" he can to make a difference on the ice.
While the numbers are making the chances of a playoff berth a little less feasible, don't tell the boys that. They're still going to play as if it's all on the line -- because it is.
Mark Herrmann will let us know who will be in net tonight. I'm starting to wonder if Al Montoya will EVER see the net again. Maybe tonight will be the night. Maybe not.
More as it comes in. But here's our piece of real estate on the web for today HBers.
