On January 8th, I wrote this:
Yes, yes... as someone suggested yesterday after hearing that Lubomir Visnovsky would be staying in the KHL, a healthy Radek Martinek would be a good fit for the NY Islanders.
Low and Behold as Art Staple is at Iceworks this morning, who is skating with his old team but -- Radek Martinek. Martinek lives on Long Island and has been a familiar face at Iceworks. According to Staple, he does expect an invite to camp.
And oddly, I was discussing this with someone on LinkedIn at 7 am this morning.
I should have just written it then!
This morning at 7:22 am the expected was announced. With the absence of Lubomir Visnovsky and his attendance at camp in question, the most prudent thing to do was to tag 36-year-old veteran defensemen Radek Martinek to a one-year contract.
Radek is a quality defenseman who can find himself at the right spot at the right time -- if he can stay healthy.
Welcome back Radek.
