I watch the Sens alot and earlier this year I had a discussion with Kevin Allen from USA Today about this theory.
Can an offense lose it's spunk because it doesn't believe in its defense? Especially goaltending.
When I followed the Sens to their Cup Final run they were a confident team. Regardless of what was happening behind the scenes, when it came to the games these players believed that Ray Emery could lead them to the promised land. And with good reason at the time.
Senators Blog Stand-in: Eklund
I remember one specific morning skate during the conference finals when Emery showed up and was absolutely torn into by teammates. He looked like hell walking in, and yet he went out and played like a fireball in the morning skate and defeated the Sabres that evening.
All last year this team showed sparks of their talent, but eventually it all fell apart in a HUGE way.
What went wrong?
I believe the confidence in goaltending never returned and that changed every aspect of their game. Hartsburg has them working harder, but in the end its time for Murray to make a deal for a real #1. I have said it before. The Bulin wall wouldn't just put the Sens in the playoffs, it would put them back in the running because I believe it would all fall back into place.
What do you think?
