Thoughts and prayers for the repose of the soul of former Sabres winger, Paul Cyr, who has passed away. He was just 48 years old. Kendall Hanson of CHEK News says he passed away of a heart attack and suffered from diabetes related health issues.

thanks, CHEK News

It breaks my heart to hear his mother describe how kind and generous her son was as a human being. My thoughts are with her and the entire Cyr family.

thanks, CHEK News

Only the good die young.

Sabres top defensive prospect, Mark Pysyk assisted on a goal and played well in his end as his Edmonton Oil Kings scored a first round win over the host Shawinigan squad at the Mastercard Memorial Cup on Friday night. Pysyk assisted on Edmonton's third goal, scored by Martin Gernat. He was an even player in Game 1.

Four different Oil Kings registered a goal as Edmonton went on to defeat the hometown Cataractes.

Griffin Reinhart was named the first star of the game.

Game two of the 2012 MasterCard Memorial Cup goes today as the defending national champions Saint John Sea Dogs take on the OHL champions London Knights.

Last Sunday, Pysyk led his team to a Game 7 victory over the Portland Winterhawks to earn their rightful spot at the the 2012 Mastercard Memorial Cup. When the Sabres drafted Pysyk 23rd overall in the 2010 NHL draft, they knew that they were getting a leader and a difference maker. Pysyk 20, came of age in his home town of Edmonton this season.

Here, Pysyk, the team captain, accepted the Ed Chynoweth Trophy.

Pysyk joins Tyler Myers (2009), Matt MacKenzie (2010), and Brayden McNabb (2011) to give the Sabres a Western Hockey League champion stud Dman for the fourth straight season.

Pysyk finished the playoffs with 3 goals, including one shorty and a GWG, and 11 points.

This kid's got it all, in spades! He's and 6'1 190 and has wheels. Makes a great first pass. Sees the entire ice. He's a right hander and has an accurate NHL shot. Plays well in all situations. He'll be a lock to play in Rochester next season.

Pysyk is not a heavy weight by any stretch of the imagination, however, he will not resist the temptation to toss the mitts to defend a team mate.
