Nathan "Big Mac" MacKinnon

Wow, has there been a better Memorial Cup played by anyone? Now I'm really questioning Steve Spott and Hockey Canada's decision to limit this kid's ice-time during the World Juniors. He was simply dominant with seven goals and 13 points in four games and those numbers could have been better if he wasn't rested during his team's blowout win over London.

Before the tourney I had him at number two but I'm not sure anymore. As talented and rare as Jones is, I'm not sure there is a player that plays as well on the big stage as MacKinnon. The Avs choice just got a little harder. I wouldn't want to be the one to have to decide between the two.

5 bold offseason predictions

Jonas Hiller to Florida

The Panthers need a starting goalie in the worst of way and the Ducks have three guys who look ready the battle it out for the starting gig. One of them has to go and after signing Getzlaf and Perry to those huge deals, it's got to be the expensive guy.

Roberto Luongo to Phoenix/Tippett stays

The Coyotes have the right combination of a possible new owner looking to make a splash to create some hype around the team and a need for a goaltender given that Mike Smith is ready to walk via free agency. A move like this will only cost the Yotes a prospect/pick or two and will show fans of the area that the new owners want to win in Phoenix.

Once that new falls into place, look for Tippett to re-up in the desert and lead the Yotes to another playoff berth.

Brad Richards to Nashville

The Preds need a star and the Rangers look to be all but done with him. Since there are rumours of him being bought out, my guess is the Preds can land him fairly cheap and get an impact star that they need. I for one don't think Richards is done, but he does need a change of scenery. Look for him to head to the Preds for a couple of mid-level prospects and a roster player.

Canucks offer-sheet to Sam Gagner

When Gillis hit the reset button the first time he went hard after David Backes. This time around he will go hard after Sam Gagner. He has already said that he wants a younger, No. 2 centre and with Sam's dad being a Canucks employee, Vancouver will be able to put a bee in Sam's ear. As far numbers, I'll say 5 years and 4.75 per.

Worst case scenario, if Gillis doesn’t land his guy he will at least drive the price up on a rival.

Miller for Bryzgalov

Both players need a new start and both teams need to be better in goal. Miller solidifies the Flyers nets for at least one season and Bryz will surely be better if he can get out of Philly and into a more relaxed averment. The Sabres like to toss stupid money around, so I doubt taking on Bryz's deal is an issue.

All in all, I think this move makes both teams better in net and shakes up the dressing rooms.

Thoughts?
