Where to begin?
There's so much to talk about.....I guess the obvious place to start is that David Moss is back. On Saturday against the Wild he played an intense 13 minutes rocking the house for three shots and six hits.....So much was made of his return I forgot he was David Moss for a second....
And if not David Moss, I'd really like to talk to you about the new Sons of Bill album my Dad gave me, which I've been playing non-stop for the last three days, but I'd guess they're no T-Swifty so I better not....
With Moss getting his game-legs back there's no doubt the Oilers are in tough tonight, although, let's be honest: when the NHL's two worst teams get together, it's really the viewers who are in tough.
The Coyotes, for the record, have beat the Oilers 3 times so far this year, scoring 15 goals while doing so, and they haven't won since the last time they beat the Oilers. Tonight they will look to avoid going 0-5 in the most pathetic home-stand in anybody's recent memory, but it's a rough go, because the Oilers will be sure to have some jump in their game after firing their coach yesterday. Not to mention the improbability of beating the same team four times in a row when you aren't any better than that team........
Hey did you know that if you took away the three wins the Coyotes have against the Oilers this year the teams would invert records and the Coyotes, not the Oilers, would be the worst team in the NHL? The good times never stop around here, my friends.....
So what's the stupidest thing I ever heard? Is it that a team that is now on it's fifth coach in six years is intentionally making it six coaches by bringing in a rookie to be guided along by the guy who was fired as coach, rehired as GM, then made himself sort-of the coach, but that that guy is just being called an "interim" coach or that he is yet another rookie NHL coach?
No, that was only the stupidest thing I ever heard of for like five minutes, until I saw this doozy from Darren "I'm on TV so people will repeat what I say no matter how dumb" Dreger:
These players will be embarrassed that Dallas Eakins had to go down because of their inability to respond. It’s not one player. It’s the collection of players that make up a sagging work ethic and lack of culture. But if you wanted to put a face on it, or a name to it, that’d be Taylor Hall. Taylor Hall, at least again from a culture standpoint – more in the room, not necessarily on the ice – hasn’t been what they hoped he would be.
Now, Taylor Hall has 243 points in 271 games, despite a litany of injuries and a weak roster. But he's
not necessarily been a problem on the ice.
Of course, because it's all about culture. You know, that BS indefinable, un-quantifiable, fake garbage we talk about when there are no more obvious reasons for the problem?
Because, Taylor Hall, despite being an even better hockey player than was thought when he went first overall, just isn't leadery enough. Wait, doesn't he play with reckless abandon and the heart of a lion? Who cares, because when he gets off the ice, he likes to deal with the abject horror that is his hockey team/career by being laid back?
Yes, it's all his fault for being an uncultured lout.
Think for a second how bad the Leafs have been over the last three years. Got the image in your head? OK, now clear your mind and concentrate on the fact that one of the only teams worse than the Leafs made the Leafs' THIRD STRING GOALIE their starter.
But Taylor Hall should be traded because a 22 year old Millionaire who is already among the best of the best in the world at his chosen profession just doesn't bring the indefinable quality of culture enough.
Consider this: their defense is so bad that Brad Hunt has been averaging 20 minutes per game in the six games he's played.
Who is Brad Hunt? Beats me, but that can't be good.
Justin Shultz is leading the team in average ice time per game and there are at least 10 teams in the NHL he probably couldn't make. There is certainly no other team that is going to play him as their number one defenseman.
What about the fact that that BENOIT POULIOT - a 28 year old journyman who's never cracked 40 points - averages more power-play time per game than Nail Yakupov?
No, who cares about things you can actually quantify, break-down or that are otherwise tangible - let's talk about the culture of the damned team and blame the one of two players who hasn't played like total garbage this season.
Awesome. Here's some Son's of Bill,
