I received some more information last night (thank you, source— I owe you one) on the Cristobal Huet/ Corey Crawford trade rumor as reported on Monday on ESPN RADIO 1000.
Teams and players.
I'm not trying to be coy, but I also want to dig a little more before putting the whole rumor out. And, I don't think Hawk fans would want me to jinx this one—it would be a good deal for the Hawks.
It (supposedly) involves an Eastern Conference Team (NOT the Islanders, as I had previously theorized), with Huet, Crawford and a Blackhawk forward going in return for a #1 goalie and a defenseman.
The Blackhawk forward is a good player that other teams covet, hence why this deal makes sense for both clubs.
I do not know who the defenseman would be.
At least one of the players involved is presently playing in the Olympics.
As I've said in the past, reporting things like this is like communicating with the Great Beyond. It's an inexact science at best.
I will say, there is some circumstantial evidence that something of this nature went down (was agreed upon, was close to happening) between Friday and Sunday night— but that was also under a trade freeze.
That said, as the end of the trade freeze nears, if I don't hear anything that contradicts this rumor, I will relate more. Because we could see it happening not long after.
Thanks,
JJ
