My Apologies To Burke and Wilson

What a hockey game!

Well, not only did I pick the U.S. to lose this game, but I also had them at 50-1 to win the gold going in because I thought Brian Burke and Ron Wilson had made some terrible choices for their roster.

I stand somewhat humbly corrected.

Now, it remains to be seen if the U.S. will medal, much less win a gold.

And I still think Dustin Byfuglien and/or T.J. Oshie would have been better choices than, say, Ryan Callahan. And—absolutely—Craig Anderson should be on this team over Jonathan Quick.

But credit Brian Burke and Ron Wilson for cobbling together a team with a lot of heart— and a horseshoe or two in their pads.

A few other observations:

Don't count Canada out. A couple of bounces the other way and the score of this game is easily reversed.

Rick Nash had a great game.

I am not terribly impressed with the "San Jose Line." More hype than substance in this tourney.

Canadian fans have known since the 2006 World Juniors what a heart and soul winner Jonathan Toews is. More American fans know now. great shot on CNBC of Pat Kane and Toews embracing after the game.

I thought Duncan Keith had a nice game tonight, great decisions at top speed. His speed is lethal. Like I said, do not rule Canada out. This was a big win for the U.S., but also kind of lucky.

Finally, man, I love Drew Doughty. This kid looks like he's been playing at this level for ten years.

Great game.

Maybe Sweden can bail me out on my predictions for today. So far 0-2. Come on King!!
