Here's a quick one on a variety of subjects before tomorrow's Islander preview.
TICKET CONTEST:
Along with the good people at hockeytickets.ca, I'm giving away two tickets to the Hawks/Canadiens game at the UC on December 21. I should have all the contest information up in the next couple of days. Sorry for the delay. U.S. Thanksgiving was a big roadblock in the middle of the process.
ISLANDER GAME:
Like the Ducks last week, the islanders could not be coming up on the schedule at a better time for the Blackhawks, after a deflating 4-1 loss at home versus Phoenix the other night.
But take nothing for granted. The Islanders might be essentially the Blue Jackets of the East, but they are young and hungry. The Blackhawks need to have a major bounceback performance tomorrow night. A win is only a metric of whether the Blackhawks have a pulse. A loss is a metric of some serious issues with the team.
And if the Hawks do win, any momentum gained needs to be reflected in Saturday night's big road game against division rival St. Louis. The hawks should by no means be looking past the Isle; rather they should be viewing that contest as an opportunity to have a horn-to-horn effort and work through some issues— hopefully getting a win.
Watch Islander forward Matt Martin, a big favorite of mine and just the kind of player the Hawks could use right now on their lower lines.
But the St. Louis game is perhaps a better barometer of where the Hawks are today. The last time the Hawks were in Scottrade, they lost 3-0.
CALLING THE HOGS:
Brandon Pirri has 21 points in 19 games and is +3. Rostislav Olesz, who I'm told is clearly the best player on the Hogs right now, has 8 points in 5 games and is +6.
AND FROM THE HOME OFFICE IN FRIBOURG, SWITZERLAND:
Cristobal Huet (still Hawk property) has a .938 save% and a 1.78 GAA in the Swiss NAL.
Yes, it is a slow news day. Back with an Islander preview tomorrow.
