Each week during the Hockey Season I will be posting a Rimer's Ramblings. Letting you know what's going on in hockey and what players, coaches and GM's are saying.
1. Spoke to Brenden Morrow again. He's talking to a couple of teams still. He wants to play for a contender first and foremost. The feeling I got from Brenden is something is close, who that team is, still remains to be seen.
UPDATE:
Last night I had another conversation with Brenden Morrow if he was about to sign, "No I haven't signed anything yet. I'm considering an offer and some action is happening now. Shouldn't be too long though."
I Then asked if the deal was from the Flyers, "They are one of a handful of teams we are talking to throughout the summer, but no the deal I'm considering isn't theirs." I'm starting to get the impression that Morrow's offer is from the Carolina Hurricanes which he's considering. I've been told by a strong source that Head Coach Kirk Muller, who is a former teammate of Morrow's in Dallas has been reaching out to Brenden trying to get him on board.
2. Former Avalanche and Wild Dmen Greg Zanon informed me yesterday that he's on his way to San Antonio to play for the Rampage in the American Hockey League on a Preseason tryout. Obviously this wasn't his number one choice, but because of the Cap going down, teams are having a hard time signing players.
3. Cody Franson is no closer to signing a new contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Franson said today "I honestly didn't think it would come to this." One thing Cody needs to be careful of is Paul Ranger and Morgan Rielly who have looked really good in preseason. Cody says he's willing to take a 1 year deal, however the Maple Leafs do not want a 1 year deal.
4. Mason Raymond has also looked really good so far in preseason games with the Toronto Maple Leafs. My sources tell me that the Leafs and Raymond's Agent are currently discussing a deal, although nothing is done yet. There's not a lot of cap space left for the Leafs....see #3.
5. I was told yesterday from a member of the St. Louis Blues organization that they've been really happy with Ryan Whitney. "He's right there to make the team," my source told me.
6. Wade Redden is still an unrestricted free agent. Wade text'd me telling me, "I'm still waiting. I've been kicking a few tires, but nothing is going on yet."
7. I sent UFA Jose Theodore a message yesterday to see whats going on with him. "All is good. My Golf Handicap is down to a 6. Hockey wise a few talks but would rather stay quiet, but will let you know when I've made up my mind."
8. Finally Nicklas Lidstrom is coming back to play for the Red Wings....in the Winter Classic Alumni Game. Word on the street is the Red Wings are trying hard to bring back Federov and Yzerman as well. Should be a good one no matter what.
