With the start of the 2011 World Junior Hockey Championship in Buffalo, New York less than a month away, Hockey Canada revealed the 39 players invited to selection camp.
Of the 39 players invited to selection camp, 34 currently play in the Canadian Hockey League. The Western Hockey League has the most players invited with 17 players named to the roster. The Ontario Hockey League comes in second place with 11 players, while the QMJHL rounds out the three leagues with six players invited to camp.
Rounding out the rest of the roster, the NCAA has two players invited to camp. While the WCHA, CCHA, and American Hockey League all have one player named to the selection camp list.
There are three players returning from 2010's silver medal winning edition of Team Canada, all three of which are defencemen. Nashville Predators prospect Ryan Ellis will look to make his third World Junior appearance, while Jared Cowen and Calvin de Haan hope to make the team for the second year in a row.
Some notable omissions include Dallas Stars first round draft pick Scott Glennie who has 31 points in 28 games with the Brandon Wheat Kings of the WHL. Other surprise omissions in addition to Glennie are Brendan Ranford, who is second in the WHL in scoring, as well as Tyler Toffoli, Ryan Martindale, Greg McKegg, Christian Thomas, and Taylor Doherty.
Both 2010 top prospects Taylor Hall and Tyler Seguin are WJHC eligible, but are unlikely to be made available by both the Edmonton Oilers and the Boston Bruins. Hockey Canada does have high hopes however that the Los Angeles Kings will make Brayden Schenn available for the tournament.
Hockey Canada's selection camp will take place from December 12-15 at the Mastercard Centre in Toronto, Ontario.
