Random Notes
- Out of 178 NHl games to be nationally televised in the US this year, the Nashville Predators are on the schedule three times, twice on NBCSportsNet and once on NHL Network. Only one home game, January 1 vs. Calgary… the other two are… at MSG against the Rangers and at Chicago vs the Blackhawks.
- It’s interesting that the Predators will be on TSN or CBC just as many times, featuring two games at Bridgestone Arena, 11/12 vs. Montreal and 3/24 vs. Winnipeg.
- Hockey Night in Canada will be in Music City for the 11/12 game. That game (if my math is right) is the 1000th regular season game in franchise history. There should be big doings that night.
- Excellent graphical look at the NHL National TV schedule over at
On the Forecheck. A typically cogent analysis from Dirk.
- Speaking of the national TV schedule, I would think that the powers-that-be would be very interested in building the attention on some of the lesser known teams. A commenter on Dirk’s analysis (link above) noted that comments like “we had no idea what a Preds home gave is like” are caused by this kind of scheduling. (stick tap to OTF commenter “musamonster”)
- I like that NBC is trying to create another holiday game… the day after Thanksgiving will feature a noon CST matchup between the Bruins and Red Wings.
- Jeremy Roenick has signed a five year deal with NBC. I like JR’s outspokenness and being completely unafraid to say anything. This is going to be fun.
- The one thing I really like coming out of the RDO camp is the “verification line” idea. The verification line is a green line placed three inches behind the goal line to assist in video review. If the puck touches that line, it’s a goal… I also like the shallower net idea, especially if they loosen the twine a bit…
- The things I don’t like coming out of RDO… everything else.
- 27 days till training camp opens.
