So I'm way late to the party here and really didn't know anything about this rumour, or let's be honest, it's a 'promoted idea'. I heard it on the afternoon drive show with Hustler and Lawless as they made reference to it coming from HNIC's Hot Stove. Whew! At least it's not locally sourced. I smelled a lot like Milbury and Healy work to me anyway but I'm glad there's some confirmation.

So why would the Jets make this deal?

Lets at least start with a serious discussion before we get into ridicule should I choose to go that route.

I have no idea why the Jets would do this based on a quick two-second analysis. So I wanted to prove it with some stats, fancy stats.

For Corsi On (Meaning more teams are shooting at them when they are on the ice then they are shooting at opposition) Luke and Brayden Schenn are a -1.07 & -4.04

Burmi and Buff are 3.44 and 1.21

For Quality of Competition (Average plus/minus of opposition players weighted head-to-head) Luke is .062 and Brayden is -.015

Burmi is -.045 and Buff is 0.37

Corsi for Quality of Teammates (Average Corsi of Teammates, weighted by ice time together) Luke is -4.148 and Brayden is -4.398

Burmi is -.187 and Buff is -.840

Corsi Quality of Competition (Average Corsi of opposing players, weighted by head-to-head ice time) Luke is 1.32 and Brayden is 1.535

Burmi is .043 and Buff is .608

Based on those stats alone I'm not making the deal. Even Byfuglien is a slightly better possession player than the Schenns and that's saying something.

The fact is the Flyers were not as god-awful as some want to believe. They finished right below the Jets with 49 points yet scored 5 more goals and allowed 3 less. So why make that deal? Because there is a chance Burmistrov has decided he wants a change of coaching scenery seems to be the obvious reason.

The other simple reason is that there really is no player in the league who does what Byfuglien does and I'm not ready to part with that unique level of talent for a hope that a pair of brothers develop into something unique.

More importantly if the need is there to give up on Burmistrov why throw in Byfuglien? What makes sense about adding him to the offering? Oh I know, it's probably because the HNIC guys are hearing the same thing as Eklund is- that Philly likes Byfuglien. They just used the info to 'create' a deal.

You're not swapping Luke Schenn for Byfuglien because that's what the trade works out to when broken down to the basic level. A unique, exceptional talent has to return something of equal value and if that's the best Chevy can do with Buff SHOULD he choose to move him every Jets fans should be nervous going forward.
