Any of you boys in the NY market have Directv? Here around Hartford if they play the game on NHL Network it gets blacked out on that, MSG and the other teams broadcast. CAN YOU SAY WTF??? Nice to see the next 2 games are on NHLN.. that's 4 in a row
- mrn22

firstrowsports - that's the only way I can watch the NHLN games - from PA. I have the same problem. I watch all the games using the NHL's gamecenter but they don't show the NHLN games. its the best site I can find. not sure of security though so tread lightly.

I would agree with that.

The kid I'm really looking forward to seeing is Kovacs. Despite being snubbed from the WJC, he has surpassed his point totals from last year by 6 points already despite playing 8 less games. This is on the team in Sweden's 2nd tier of hockey, and it appears he's played 4 games in the SEL too. Not sure if that was at the beginning of the year and then he got sent down to the 2nd tier or if he was playing so well in the 2nd tier that he's now up in the SEL.

I like the Kovacs pick as well. Only knock on him is his lack of size. But he skates well, plays with an edge and can finish.

I realize that this is an over generalization, but I like picking Swedes in the later rounds. For whatever reasons, perhaps the way the Swedes develop players, a lot of them tend to be late bloomers. There are several examples of that throughout the years.

Lundqvist, Hagelin, Fast, Zetterberg, Hornqvist all come to mind immediately.

Lidstrom was a third rounder, and I think Alfredsson was a fourth or fifth rounder.

Fransson, Silfverberg, and Eriksson were also all second rounders.

This I was actually thinking as well. Duclair really isn't anything all that special... he's a straight up and down player who has above average hands. He's... I dunno... a more physical Kris Versteeg, probably?
- BINGO!

For everything we've given up over the past few years, people forget that we signed Zucc and Hayes, which replaces at least two first rounders for me, if not more.

I've always said that same thing. And you couple that with drafting a couple guys in the third round that, a year later, are viewed as first round type prospects, and that makes the hit of not having the first rounders a little easier to swallow. So, then you either keep those guys, like the club did with Buchnevich, or they are available assets to be used in trades, like the club did with Duclair. Hell, even Sarella, was viewed as a much better prospect than a late third round pick this year.

Since the first lockout, the Rangers are probably the best team in the league in drafting beyond the first round -- Stepan, Dubinsky, Callahan, Lundqvist, Fast, Hagelin, Duclair, Buchnevich, etc.

he played well @ wjc but played with two absolute studs on his line.

he's signed for another year, so you probably wont see him until 2 years from now.

good prospect though. not one of our top 3 in my opinion but could develop into a player given time. the feeling is he is still a while away from being nhl ready.

I thought he played on the third line in the WJC for Finland, no?

Yeah - those are the true steals of the draft. Getting a guy in the 3rd and having him viewed as a top flight prospect a year later is crazy. I wonder how much of it is just NYC spin but, however it happens, trading those assets at the height of their "value" is a great way to run a team that is in a "win-now" mode.

Loved to write blogs about the Rangers "farce attendance" & Corporate guests. Crazy how the Devil blogger would make every other blog about this team he hated so much.

The guy really was unbalanced, like for real. I think he might have jumped off a bridge after Kovalchuk bailed. I don't know anyone who has heard from him since.

Boone Jenner just signed a 2 year/$5.8 million contract. Same draft year as Miller. That may provide some guidance as to what Miller may cost, although my guess would be that Miller gets somewhere closer to the $2.4-2.5 million range.

Edit:

Jenner: 167GP, 47G, 34A, 81 Points
Miller: 177GP, 32G, 35A, 67 Points

Similar players, although Jenner is having a bit better statistical season.
