No they're terrible because they have one offensive line and three lines that mix of mediocre offensive flashes and strict defensive forwards. Pretty sad when the best player not on the top line was Catenacci. He was flying all over the ice and had the biggest hit of the night. As far as I'm concerned he deserves a full time call up at least an indefinite one. Ennis and O'Riley being out and no more McGinn has really shown the deep weaknesses this team has.
They also have a lack of physical defensive defenceman who don't just stand there while speedy small guys skate around the,

You touched on it but they need to be a lot more physical as well. They just don't hit anymore. Seems nobody really does though .......

1. coaching
2. lack of scoring 5 on 5
3. a few guys that have been here a while have under performed instead of getting better
4. moulson
5. slow team

for the record I am now trying to be a uniter instead of a divider

- homiedclown

They have way more issues than just that. They need to rid themselves of about 3/4 of the team actually...... which in effect solves 2 through 5 on your list and at that point, you'd stop caring about coaching because they'd be winning.

Eichel had a really strong game. McLellan said he and McDavid were the best players on the ice tonight. Eichel's spin-o-rama at the end had me scared, Reinhart's worked earlier.

I really like Pysyk, he made a really smart pass to set up BUF's lone goal. A lot of smart reads and good passes from him. Too bad he's been in n out of the lineup, I'd take him in Edmonton.

They're two points out of 8th with the easiest remaining schedule Gerbe... They'll need some more bad bounces and some of these losing teams to maybe win a game or two..

Pysyk has had a mixed bag of real good games like this one and ones where he tries to play the body and coughs up the puck. I personally love him on this team as a 3rd pairing guy and he was easily, by a mile the best defenceman of the game today. But if you want to... Oh I don't know... Throw Hall this way... Maybe we can work something out...

I am. If we continue at the pace we're at now. Win a game every three games and get an OT point once in a while we'll be lucky to be in the 4th slot come lottery drawing. That's if we're lucky.

Huh?

This is almost exactly what smart everyone should've thought this year would be...

New coach with a new system
Lots of new players in new roles
Lots of rookies learning how to play in the league
And all of the above trying to gel together all at once!

Yes, we still have one of the lowest point totals in the league...
But we're on pace to have improved A LOT
And that's with a number of guys having disappointing seasons

I know it's frustrating being patient,
But we're on the right track bud

Better days are coming...

Very solid post ......... agree with all of it

I'm perplexed at the guys that have taken MAJOR steps back this year though. Boges, Pysk, Moulson to name a couple .... struggling what to make of it.

If we pick top5 I'm happy

IMO...
After Matthews, u could put the next 4 in any order
If we pick 5th we likely either get Tkachuck, who's a very talented top flight power forward... Or we Chychrun, which means we don't necessarily have to trade a bunch of assets to find Risto's partner for the next 10+ years

We'll get a very good player in this draft

Write out what our lines & defense look like in 2 years with us adding just Chychrun & Stamkos this offseason...
Still pretty darn good IMO
