Because there is this false narrative that if you play against better comp. You play with better teammates, so it evens out.

It's total BS.

Another analytic whipping boy Tyler Myers has positive Corsi rel. to his competition

What the poop When it went back up post trade Coller blamed it on Edmontons goaltending...no seriously

Speaking of which, guess which forward on the sabres has had the least amount of ice time with risto. (in the top 6 i mean)

Hint: it's someone who really should be on the ice with risto, a lot

With all these advanced stats makes ya wonder how teams actually won before them...i mean how did people tell if players were good or not? My grandma still has the same bottle opener that she has had for 64 yrs...me well lets just say the plastic keeps breaking..point is is newer always better?

Maybe grandma doesn't open as many bottles as you do.

Eichel would be correct. I suspect that as his game grows and he becomes better at this so too will his ice time with risto.

Interestingly enough he doesnt spend much time with our "shut down line" either.

Touche....although grams usually uses her knees.

After rereading that it came out wrong meant to open the bottles.

It's a sample size issue. The larger the sample size, the more accurate the data. Cal O'Rielly has the highest scoring rate out of any of our forwards right now but it doesn't take a genius to realize that is useless data

edit: at 5v5

I would be careful with this line of thinking when talking about athletes/careers. I'm all for analytics (went to school for it), but you have to remember that players develop and get better as their career grows, then they'll peak, then decline. A much better way to view a player is a large sample of games (50-100 or about a years worth) as opposed to multiple years. If you really think about it, does Risto look the same as he did when he was a rookie? I wouldn't say so, and that's why using this years analytical numbers would give a better indication of where he actually is vs. where he was when he was a 19 year old rookie.

I agree that it doesn't tell the whole story, but if we are going to bash Bogosian, praise Pysyk, then Risto deserves his fair share of criticism.

He's not making nearly the amount of plays he was to start the year.

Part of it is fatigue, part of it is teams catching on that he's our #1 defensemen, and game planning for him

Either him or jack would move to the wing. Still go after Stammer.

they are in position where they draft the best player IMO

they have 2 holes on D and 2 holes in their top 6

my guess is take the best player, and then stock pile the farm with d men and wingers, and draft a goalie every year in a later round

For this year, Id change that word to acquire. In other words if they do go on a mini run and pick 8th, I think they'll explore all options, not just drafting.
